Actually, I was just going to store it in their bags, and set those bags in the trash cans. Mice love my garage in the winter. But if plastic is better, then I am going to take your word for it and go that route. How long can I store commercial feed like I get at TSC or FFH?

We had more and then rehomed a few. The count is 10 chickens and 5 ducks with the latter sucking down more food. Chicken math can't take over due to the stealth nature of our set up :(

There is a local farm that custom mixes and the lowest minimum I've found is 200. Since we only go through 50-60 of feed a month I questioned the best storage method. I'd rather make the drive a little more often than waste money and feed.

What ya'll think? Good deal for someone wanting to start or no?

Want chickens but do not want to go thru the chick raising stage? Well do I have a deal for you. For $40 you will get 1 cockerel of your choice and 4 point of lay pullets. They should start laying the end of this month, beginning of next. Now, all these chickens are currently Free range birds, so you'd need to keep them confined to coop and run for a week or so till the know where home is. You'd need a 4x5 foot coop with good ventilation, 2 nest boxes and 5 foot roosting bar. For a run you'd need 50 square feet of space. More is always better though. SO, not to much space all in all. I try to keep things as natural as possible. Natural worming and natural mite treatments and this has worked for us. These birds are pretty and colorful. I might add that they are all mixed breeds of dual purpose birds.

The 3 big mallards are about 13 weeks old now, the 4 orphans, I've had for 3-4 weeks or so and the smallest has only been here about 2 weeks. I put the orphans out in the garage coop and penned them separate from the others.
It looks like they found a way out or else the big ducks were aiding and abetting...

I am amazed that the smallest duckling is being watched over and protected by the bigger ducks. Considering that each duck group came from different areas and the differences in ages is fairly significant and they are together with both mature and juvenile chickens is astounding to me. Talk about harmony!

eggs are in the incubator...frizzle bantam GL Polish. I will bring them all to Chickenstock- you can have your pick!
Yes please a pullet, that is if you hatch anything but your famous roosters!

It will be my son's birthday two days after chickenstock so maybe I'll let him bring one home!
They are lovely RaZ.
x2 It makes me feel bad I won't get ducks!

I just set them so they wont be very old at Chickenstock- a couple weeks.
You are more than welcome to pick a "pullet". However, I would reccomend that you take a few and see if one turns out to be a pullet. If you want, I can tell you which one has become my favorite, so you will know not to pick that one- seems I get most attached to those that turn out to be roosters. (heck, most I hatch are those, arent they? lol)

NATURE SUBJECT...
Is it possible that all four of my d'uccles are girls? *faint*
Today, I caught my male pigeon trying to make "PICKENS" by mating with one of the d'uccles. I was horrified- imagine what type of pterodactyls I could make if I crossed .....never mind...

Ya know.. I have actually wondered about that... Like if you could cross a robin and a cardinal type thing... You can cross different breads of dog, cat, chickens... Heck there is even such a thing as a liger...

Well anyway. Went to TSC to get a larger rubber bowl for the ducklings. Boy was it funny to watch them figure out how to get in the bowl, get all excited and make a big watery mess.

I am waiting for the heat to go away a bit. Its hot out there. I need to clean coops. I have 3 hours till its useless to even try in the dark. I figure in the next 30 or so I will do it.

I was just looking at the Menards ad... I never noticed "words of wisdom" in fine print at the very bottom of the pages before.... Pretty cool.
