Still working on my hen's bumblefoot, between soaking and cleaning and de'uccle chicks everywhere, broody that won't get off the nest without "assistance" , garden planting, and flower bed planting.......

Poor girl, every time i think i got it all i find more. This was deep, i am starting to wonder if i bought her this way because my roo has it, but his isn't deep at all. I was going to do his after hers, but at this rate i may have to have 2 hob-a-long's at the same time.

On the bright side, my hen's eggs are due to hatch any day! yippee! I had 5 that looked promising at last candling, provided that 2 days of 90 degree weather didn't muck it up, since the dang hen WON'T get off the nest, and my arms are beyond horrible just from 2 weeks of poo-duty once a day!

When we cut into my hens foot we found 5 corns. I took cutting her foot open 4 times to get it all. After the first time she didn't get any special treatment. We put on gauze, vet wrap, press and seal and put her back outside with no problems for her walking.


After all the food my blind girl ate last night she was much more active. A couple times today I put her in the tote with food and let her scatch around. I did see her getting a drink a few times also. It's amazing how adaptable they are. Now I just have to teach her to come to my voice when I call her. Anyone remember Backyardigans' "Yeti, Yeti, Yeti" that's what it sounds like when I call her!

Got all of my garden in except potatoes and flowers. Today was pumpkins, 4 kinds of squash, 2 kinds of zuchini, 3 kinds of cukes, lettuce, spinach, arugula, greens, 4 kinds of basil, swiss chard, cabbage and onions. Now hubby is out mowing, not just the yard but the whole field. Men and mowers/tractors!

first time that ever happened. I am thinking of digging out all the soil, putting a new layer of cardboard down, since the old is obviously gone, maybe some chicken wire fencing... yeah, that. i went to water tonight, and there were the darn tunnels. they were not there when i watered this morning. peas are gone, new beans are gone... only thing left are the cukes, zucs, toms, radishes... you've got to be kidding me! its a darn mess!

so much for keeping it natural eh. Well, will just have to modify, dig out and redo.

The last time i cut i actually found "corns", but this is just an odd and gross mess in there that is kinda hard and stringy. Not at all what the pics looked like on the how-to's. I have been soaking in either peroxide or epsom salt, to try to clean and draw out. I can thank the epsom salt for hardening the mess a little this last time so i could see what to do, but this is looking like it's attached to the bone maybe. I cleaned all the sides out yesterday, but can't get the bottom cleaned. I really hope this is not infecting the bone, she's my favorite. I did the first attempt last fall, then again in the spring, and twice again in the last week.

I'm getting so much done on my "staycation" and I only have 5 more days off.

I need to get some more 1x3's to finish the "X" pattern on the coop door...but the door is on and it's looking awesome! Now all we need to do is arrange the cooping on the inside, finish the roof and add on the runs! Here's a before and after picture so far...it's hard to believe it's the same coop! I keep elbowing my husband saying "I told you it would be awesome!" lol Now to finish the roof, the inside and get the runs on!

NOVA! (for some reason it won't let me "quote") Have you tried lining your garden with pinwheels....those cute things that spin in the wind....the vibrations should keep the moles away.

Hey all.. we are North of Milford MI and have a young flock of 3 barred rocks (2 pullets and a roo) and went for feed and brought home 2 ISA Browns So 5 in all and still working on getting our coop built! The warmer weather meant we can move the chicks from the finished basement to the garage. They free range in the landscaping while we play outside and tonight around dusk they all found their way back to their garage crate without prodding. Pretty cool. Really dig our chicken family!
