Awhile back, some of you were talking about teething babies. Just saw on news that the FDA has warned not to use teething gels on babies that contain Benzocaine. It can cause a rare blood disorder.

Hi chickflick

.

After I catch everyone thats leaving on Sunday- that will leave 12 less birds out there. It will look empty with the three broodies holed up and Robins blue hiding.

Ummm, are you picking on my chicken ??? LOL These other ones sure aren't shy.

My daughter works at the Health Center as a peer educator, teaching kids to say No to drugs, sex, etc. The program director asked her for a chick for the program...to be the Drug-Free Chicken. When I thought more were hatching, I told her I would give her two. Single newly hatched chick doesnt do well..better to have two. She declined, told me that they only wanted one. They plan on ordering one online. I know she cant order just one. She said she can on MyPetChicken. Do they really send only one? I told her that I have some that are eight weeks old..if she wants one of them...no, they want a chick.
I personally think an Uggo would make a great "Stay Off Drugs" mascot..

I agree. They can say look at what drugs do, I USED to have feathers around my neck before drugs

Newbie here. Just introducing myself. I have 20 chicks and 24 hatching eggs on order for August. I grew up around barnyard chickens and finally moved where I have some space to raise my own. My four kids are excited...my husband a little hesitant. Glad I found this Michigan link! I am gathering supplies ad advice! I live in te thumb area.

I still have my unicorn collection

Maybe, one day I will have a little girl to unpack them for... Maybe... well, not after that flour picture

We have butchered at around 18 weeks and they are just as good. When you think they look and feel big enough for your needs, then they are ready.

Side note: We just bought our very first pair of female sugar gliders. They are really cute and have this outrageous sound when they get nervous. Ill try to remember to put pictures up tomorrow.
Did you mention that you were going to get them before? suggiesaver.com has the BML diet. My neice has some if you have any questions I can see if she knows. She has a breeding pair... the mom is a real PITA, dad id okay, and the babies are soooo sweet!!!
Good Morning!

Chimichanga has perfected two tones now...Deep and Low Moaning sound...and there is a little squeeeky sound coming from someone else right after he does it. So, definitely a tiny roo out there. Dont know who- but the squeak could be a mouse its so small.

And WHAT???? How does a chicken make any sense for staying drug free?
Uggos would be perfect! "This is what a crackhead looks like"

Oh, and does anyone farm meal worms for their flocks?

I was thinking about it and there is a lot of information on the thread dedicated to worm farming. Thought it might help through the winter months...
I had just asked this question a few weeks ago... I think I am going to try it pretty soon. I will try to find a video that I found on youtube for you.
Hi Fam, and welcome to BYC and the Michigan threadfrom northern Michigan

That woman seriously wants just one chick? And what is she going to do with it when it is no longer small and cute in oh - 8 weeks? Some people should not have animals.
Agreed...
only got 1 chick last yr and this yr. my broody is sitting again and I just candled the eggs and 1 possibly 2 look good, I will candle again tonight when it is darker. pretty sure the spot in there should not be floating around.
I am going to try this ,does it matter what size bag you use?? lg. or small
My MIL uses snack size bags with 2 pennies...
Thanks for the info, the breast meat only weighed 1.25 pounds and I think we can do better.

Aren't sugar gliders tiny flying squirrels? That's what I seem to be remembering here.
I saw this at a restaurant on Cape Cod last year. Only they didn't bother with pennies, just clear quart sized plastic bags of water. I must admit, it was a nice fly free outdoor patio by the water. I wonder if this would work for deer flies? If I hung a bag from my baseball cap and put one on each dog's collar, would we be left alone while walking in the swamp?

I would like to see that!!! Bags of water hanging all over

I am wondering if anyone might have OEB hatching eggs for sale in Michigan? I can't find any near us in the For Sale section so I thought I would check with ya'll here :) My son has a pullet and then bought two silkies. Now he's decided he'd rather have all OEBs and breed just those. So mom gets the silkies and then I get to go on the hunt for eggs for him to incubate

Gotta love em'

Brethren:
I really like this ladies set up... This is what I will do...
I tried to breed crickets. I got them to lay eggs, but the eggs never hatched because I don't have an incubator to keep them at 80 degrees

I guess, one day, I will have to breakdown and buy an incubator...

Hi!!! LoveMyChicklets!!!
