LOL,

No Olive, I was looking for other ways to take care of my little friend, and some guy, won't say name so I do not get in trouble, posted that if the coop and run were secure to begin with, there wouldnt have been a problem and that some people were taking too much pleasure in killing... SOO, I may seem like a nice sweet girl... BUT if you knew me, and you will, you can see how I would take serious ticked off offence to such a comment, and I said something along the lines of OOPS, it will be a pleasure killing... and that this time i'd poison the bait and tell my neighbor to keep their cat in the house... so, I got in trouble for trolling...

Ok.. finally got some rain... not enough, but some. It cooled it down a bit, and that makes the chickens more comfortable. I put up another roost in the summer coop. It seems that they are on to the cooler summer roosts. Last night they were taking turns pushing each other off. Well can't have that! SO, another 7 feet of roost is up. They can spread out. Took a few peices of left over sheeting and made a temporary rain shelter for my dinners and their feed. Boy did they discover that fast and got out of the rain. Tuesday, if all goes according to plan, I will have come more wood to make a box ad on for their coop, so they can spread. Only going to have buy one sheet. I have everything else, just not enough for walls. Heck, If I can't get any of my other birds to go back into the silkies coop, maybe I will move it, set it on some fencing to keep anything from digging under, and move them into that for night time. Its 7x4 on the under. We'll have to see.

Have to get ready to go to a pick roast for the no family left inside night... then to work... have fun ya'll.

haha, Nova..thats why I hang out RIGHT here. Nice folks on the Michigan thread. If you want to get some tempers going, post some things on the duck section...scared me off.

Now, I need to discuss the chicken brain here.
I opened the gate to let the chickens out into the yard- with my supervision...read: garden hose if you step foot into my flower beds

Day after day they stare out the gate and long for the days where they could roam free. Those dumb birds refused to come out.
I waited a couple hours- my hubby and I were done loafing on the deck, so I shut their gate back up.

At one point I DID catch Chimichanga and his gf and made them come out. *Chimi jumped up on the retaining wall and when I pushed him off, he landed on his back- and was stuck like a turtle..* But they circled around and headed right back into their own yard.

I dont get it. So now I refuse to feel guilty that they cant come out. Because they dont WANT to come out.

Also, I must say, Nova. I've had many impressions of you since you joined but "nice, sweet girl" was never one of them.

I'm watching DH bail the hay.... errr, mow the grass... and it occurs to me he is the single least efficient mower in the history of the world. I have no idea what sort of pattern he thinks he's making, but from where I'm sitting all he appears to be doing is spending just as much time on the grass he's already mowed as the stuff he hasn't. No wonder we're going through so much gas in the lawn mower this year.

I guess I need to go find a project to do before I'm pushed to my limit and say something cause I certainly don't want to do it.

Yes, they spray because they are scared and that is their way of defense. I have slowly walked up to many wild ones and without scaring them I have picked them up. When I used to milk cows, every morning there would be one right outside the parlor and I would go out and talk to it and pick it up. Then I would give it a treat that I would bring out in the parlor for it.
Aww that's cool I wanna try it but I haven't seen a skunk by my house, well now that you mentioned it, ever! LOL I probably better not try it

Well... looks like we have a smart coon. it tiipped and turned the darn trap. managed to still eat all the meat off the bone... did not get caught. the trap is about 15 feet where i left it, at the head of the path to the woods. i left it about 10 feet behind the meat coop. oh.. the bone is the only thing trapped...

Now what do i do?
I HAVE AN ANSWER!! We had a really nasty coon problem (Mama Coon) We didn't have a trap to set that night we seen the sucker so I sat up all night with a shotgun with Birdshot loaded and waited for her to come back again until I got her!! Well I couldn't get a good shot in so the next night my Fiance stayed up with me and he got her with one shot!! I really hope she enjoyed that last egg haha
