I hate to burst your bubble but those are not Barnvelders. They are Golden Campines. If I get a minute tomorrow I will take a pic of my Barnvelders and post them for you. I have a young pair of Campines that look just like those and so do my adults.

Don't worry about bursting my bubble I already did that last night while looking up Barnvelders, darn I was so sure. Here's a pic of what some here are calling a Golden Campines I only got one of these. I just want to know what they are I have six so I would love to know.

The others are a different color a reddish/copper and I am sure one is a roo maybe even two. Could they be Sicilian Buttercup?

Oh, this one is already gone. Unfortunately, the neighbor kids noticed her missing when her spawn showed up for their daily treats without mama coon. They will, of course, continue to feed them and I'm sure these four adorable little monsters will be coming over for chickens as soon as they figure out where they are. I tried to scare the kids mom into breaking the coon-feeding habit with stories of rabies and raccoon roundworms and ocular larval migrans, but I think my hardline stance on human/raccoon interaction is falling on deaf ears. maybe i should tell the kids about larval migrans - then I'll REALLY be the badguy in the 'hood!

I need to get stuff ready for CS. I have about 20 golden willows already rooted and potted with a few still in water. I need to dig up and pot some hops and we shall see what else I can get. I think I'm out of pots now, but I will scrounge about in the garage.

I need to get the truck cleaned out and make room for stuff. Today might be a good day for it. So much to do and not enough time to do it all. How did I fall so far behind?
I don't know about anyone else but it was so hot here I didn't really want to do anything and when I did I was so slow. I am finishing up stuff to bring to CS today. At least it's cooler. I want the dry heat of AZ but don't want to live there.

Try informing her of the truth. RABIES. If people have cats (I'm assuming if they have cat food) and kids, they should know the dangers of wildlife unafraid of people. Wildlife is meant to be in the wild.

I live out here in the wild. Wildlife is here. They have a place, but when they come into MY yard, they better keep on moving. If I am out in the wild, I respect them in their place, where they are meant to be.

SankofaGypsy I agree with Opa find a way to get rid of them and don't let the neighbors know that way you won't be the "bad guy". People don't they understand that wildlife needs to be left alone? Why feed them? They will be the first to have a fit with one of them or theirs gets bit or worst. Like feeding the bears then when they become dinner they get mad, lol.

I took a walk this morning and didn't find my missing bird.  :(

The whole line of rain headed for us disappeared during the night.  DH has been home two days with a swollen eye.  Yesterday he went to the doctor about noon.  They prescribed meds.  He ened up at every pharmacy in town with none available.  So he had to go to the other side of the state (it's narrower up here) and in that town they only had half the prescription.  So he didn't start the meds until last night when he got home.  He still is swollen today so he is home again and off to town to get the rest of the meds.  While he is home I'm going to get him to help me put up the tarp over part of the run for shade.

Also if anyone is good at telling sex on a Sizzle or Showgirl I need some help. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/679845/girl-boy-on-showgirl-and-sizzle

I'm sorry you lost your chicken. :(

I'm looking forward to meeting everyone at chickenstock this weekend.

I've been having issues with a raccoon enjoying chicken nuggets for dinner.

I'm sorry you're losing chicks to those raccoons too! Argh!

One last time - I have a mature, healthy, gentle, de-spurred, Buff Brahma rooster that needs a new home.  He's free.   If you live anywhere near Muskegon you can pick him up.

Well I don't want him but I don't want you to feel ignored. :p

So my mom called this morning and said they killed two more coons this morning in the coop! They came back for the rest of her chicks! She has a live trap but they have had so many that they have started using bar-bait mixed with coca cola in a shallow pan. Kills them dang near instantly. They've gotten 20 raccoons just this month alone!

I have trapped 25 of those things in 2 months. Took them far far away too. I am not opposed to raccoons, I have raised a good many orphens in my time and I don't mind it when they eat with the cats but when it comes to them eating my birds then they have to go. Inform your neighbor that by feeding them all they are doing is giving them a death sentence. Afterall, it is against the law to have raccoons without a permit but it is not against the law to shoot them if they are getting in your livestock. And be real to the point of what will happen if they make pets of them.

All I dream about now is CHICKENS!!!
I dream about them laying eggs, worrying they are safe in their coop, I have forgotten to lock them up, chicks hatching...
CHICKENS ALL DAY AND ALL NIGHT!!! CHICKENS!!!!!!

Mom2 I think we need to order some eggs of these guys...

(As if the showgirls don't create enough of a response from people)
I want to knit them a little sweater!!!

Opas chickens...

20 coons! YIPES! I'd be worried about the poison accidentally taking out other unintended critters, though. At least with the livetrap I can let them out and send them on their way. Sorry to hear about everyone else's losses, too. Seems to be a bumper year for raccoons.
