Who me?
Ya...YOU! lol Nice to put a face to the name!

I posted the link. I thought about butchering my own chickens but after looking at the link....eh....I'll just pay someone else to do it. LOL

Same here......I didn't watch the video for I use to watch my GF & F butcher when I growing up so I know what it's all about. I'll just work a few more hours to cover the expense! lol

I have to put Vanna down... SO TOTALLY SUCKS! I think I may contact my MSU extension office and have a necropsy done...

Totally agree and contacting MSU is a good idea....maybe it's a genetic/heridity thing seeing they came from same breeder.

Here's a pic of the egg I got the other day weighed 3.5 oz / 98g. First time I got one that was so oblong looking. I had it for breakfast and when my DD cracked it open...surprise, a double yolker.

BTW - caught number 29 coon last night.

Holy Cow, that's a lot of coons!

Farmerboy - I think you should video your long crower and post it for us!

I sold him and his two ladies as meat birds last Sunday. BUT I saved at least 15 eggs from them! I pray that over 50 percent of them hatch. :fl

Hi guys! I am new to this site, and actually new to chickens in general.  We started our first flock just a few months ago and it has been a fun and fascinating hobby!  We love it!
I am blown away by this website, it is so cool to connect with chicken enthusiasts all over the country!  I was recently directed to this part of the social forum and how cool to connect with fellow Michiganders!!

So HOT today! makes me wish the air conditioner in my car hadn't broke last week!

Anyway, just wanted to say hi and introduce myself. (my name is Rachel and I'm located in Lowell, which is in west michigan, not far from grand rapids)

:welcome I am from Sparta! Have fun here!

I have to put Vanna down... SO TOTALLY SUCKS! I think I may contact my MSU extension office and have a necropsy done... No other birds are showing any symptoms, and this hit so fast. She has not lost the weight that the other hen did, but she has the super poopy butt today, and the heat has kicked her hard, so, I am not going to be letting her suffer any more today... Another beautiful dotte... SO MAD! And for once, I am super mad at my vet for not getting back with me at all about this...

So sorry about that Nova. :( Also, glad that your sister's operation whet well, was praying for her.

We would appreciate prayers for my little nephew- Micah- Meaning ''Who is like God.''

This image was taken when he was 20 weeks old. I love his smile.

His mommy and daddy- My oldest brother and his wife. This was taken when they first found out that they were expecting him.

He is now 24 weeks old. He is due in October 26th, if he survives that long, if he does, he will die as soon the cord is cut, for he has serious heart issue, and many other issues. :( The doctors have found what is causing him to have these problems. His 5th and 14th chromosomes have for some reason had broken off, so the blueprint for Micah was missing information to build him, resulting lots of problems. Plus the broken parts had reattached themselves to the different parts of the chromosomes, making the building process confused with the misinformation. I am so sad for the little guy, but I know that God knows what is best for him and all of us. We still continue to treat Micah as a human being, which he is very much so, and love him as part of the family. I love him, even though I have never held him or met him.

Daron - So sorry to hear about your nephew.

For you guys that wet down the pen and put sprinklers/misters in there......Doesn't it get pretty messy and gross? I mean with the mud, dirt, poop & all. What do you have for the flooring in your run? My coop is on grass & we move every 3 wks. so I was thinking of wetting the run down for them because so many of you do.

You're not making mud pies, just putting down a thin layer of water to provide evaporative cooling. Or, in the case of a sprinkler, you'd want one that could mist. I don't do the chickens, but the heat is much harder on pigs and any that are penned in a heat wave like this get their pen sprayed down and wallow refilled mid-day.

I spray down the trees around the coops, hose off the coops, and do like Olive said, just wet the ground. THE UNDERRUN THOUGH! That is a different story, it does turn to a mud puddle for a few minutes because the chickies really know how to make dust baths/holes in them, so those holes are ponds for a minute. LOL. If you feel the air right after a cold spray, it really does cool those areas off for a bit. The birds will be chilling out there shortly after a spray down. Well, mine do.

Guess what... I have crowing here!!!

They sound like catoon tires sreeching

Anyone want a young Barred Rock roo??? (or Showgirl??)
Barred rock=zebra=yuck. Makes me dizzy. So, what do you have then? Three...girls? One Showgirl boy? Thats not bad..tell your bf he cant complain until its all boys.

I have wood chips/mulch/shrubs, and a couple bushes in there. When I wet it down, it doesnt get muddy or gross- (my own yard is a different story).
Daron - So sorry to hear about your nephew.
me, too. Prayers for the entire family and for little Micah.

Quote: Since I wasn't able to make it to Chickenstock due to the great distance involved, I thought it might be nice if everyone put their pic up as their avatar for say, 24 hours so us "visitors" could get to know you all. Just a thought. A few of you do already I know.

My daughter was very kind yesterday and told me I don't look like an old lady! Such a sweet young woman.
