The time for DE is before there is an infestation; it's best employed as a preventative. Ivermectin can be purchased at TSC, FFH, etc.

Thanks! You guys are about the only people I talk to aside from my husband, lol, so it's fun to be able to share with someone other than him. Cause, like, he totally gets super excited about that kind of thing.

TC, he looks a lot like my EE hen!

Nova - You gotta watch that spell check! ROFL

I need a lathe. Up until now there were a few different little shops that I have bought the turnings I use from, but right now our budget is even more restricted than it has been... I bought these at Hobby Lobby. >.< They're cheap there. I used the jumbo sized peg doll bodies, and candle cups for these.

They are painted with acrylic, I have found the indoor / outdoor weather resistant acrylic paint to work best for kids toys, lol. I mostly use DecoArt Patio Paint, but have a handful of other brands and the only one I recall being very upset with was Martha Stuart! I bought a couple bottles once ebcause they were on sale, and it was thin and streaky and very difficult to get a good, even coat with. Plus, the cap snapped in half on one of them the first time I used it. Just make sure it is AP certified non-toxic. Not that that means a whole lot, (don't get me started,) but it helps.

Their little caps are made of eco-felt, which is made from recycled bottles, but as you are not worried about avoiding wool, you could use any craft felt. Hobby Lobby / Michaels / JoAnns all carry craft felt. I hot glue it on, lol.

Oh, right, and the little pots have acrylic paint around the top ring, and then I stained the rest of the outside and inside with non-toxic watercolour. I seal the bare wood and watercolour stain with vegetable oil. You can also use olive oil, but it can go rancid, or shea butter, cocoa butter, bees wax, shellac, etc.

Yes, so I am learning...

The first time I went into the local feed store and asked about treatments they directed me to the DE. I told her I thought it was really only to help prevent infestations and she swore up and down that no, it was to treat them as well. I did a lot of looking it up, and found that, as usual, everyone will tell you something different. Some swear it has cured the worst infestations ever, some say it does nothing even to help prevent, and everything in between. Since I had only found lice eggs and not mites, I figured we would give it a shot first. I see no difference, though.

I guess I will have to specifically ask them about Ivernectin? All three stores I talked to today I asked what treatments they carry for lice and mites, and the dust and spray were the only things mentioned.

I'm not in jail yet. Maybe on the 17th. when I go back to court.

The city of Garden City completely shelved the idea of allowing chickens.
Basically the mayor cited the existing ordinance that prohibits "fowl" and said that unless a council member wanted to make a motion to allow chickens then it would no longer be discussed. He basically cowed the council and dared them to go against his wishes.

Oddly enough he had the city attorney there who said that RTF and GAAMPs don't apply to "high density" cities. He also said that state law does not trump local ordinance. I wonder what law professor taught that!

My court date is July 17th. We will see what happens then.

It's almost the tiniest one's second birthday, put the finishing touches on one of her gifts today and wanted to share them with you guys. I still have a lot to do on her other gift, and I need to get a move on!! But, one down, whew! They are far, far from perfect, but luckily my critics aren't very harsh.

Those are just precious.

Juise, the poultry protecter was useless IMO. The lice swam right through, and kept on going! Plus i used most of a bottle on 2 birds............ Not worth the $$$. The ivermectin is in the cattle section, the store help probably won't show you there because of liabilaty worries...

What kind of the ivermectin are you supposed to use, anyway, guys? There are 2 types...?

I ended up buying liquid permethrin, and making a spot treatment that has worked well for me, and was cheaper. (But not eco friendly and no egg eating)

Heat exhaustion:
One site recommended drinking 2-3 glasses of buttermilk daily to heal from it . Bleh. ! Off to go get some of the buttermilk for me and the girls. Still don't know about the vitamins and herbs, except that i saw vitamin C recommended a lot.
