So are we having an Uggo swap/BBQ here tomorrow or what?

just read in BACKYARD POULTRY, TEFLON COATED LIGHT BULBS ARE TOXIC TO CHICKENS
I bought the animal safe non teflon coated "lamp" too. If you get them from the hardware store they are covered in teflon and some even say they contain lead!!!!!
re: betta fish.
Sorry, I can't find the original post to refer to. Bettas can live out of water for longer than one would expect. It has something to do with the way they process oxygen, and is why they can survive in such small amounts of water. If I had more energy I'd google it for the technicalities.
My son's Betta did the same thing. He was dry and covered with carpet fuzz when I scooped him up to flush him. When he twitched, I about freaked. I dumped him back in the tank where he took a day or two to look like his old self.
I figured that because their natural habitat is puddles... in South America, I think. I read that somewhere.
My mom had an albino african aquatic frog and it would jump out all the time. I stepped on it once and another time found it dried to the carpet!!! I thought for sure it was dead that time! Nope! Peeled it of the carpet and threw it back in the tank! Gross and amazing!
Randy- what time are we meeting up at your place?
So the party is here tomorrow?
I'm down with that.
I have hot dogs, brats, hamburgers and chicken breasts ready for the grill.

Any time after noon is fine with me.
Sounds good to me! Then after lunch we will be going to BFs grandmas.
I got uggo fever! I got uggo fever!

Okay, dunno who posted it, or even on this thread so I'm going to copy and post it in a lot of places.

Someone posted a recipe for batter - so I tried it on pre-cooked duck legs. It was so totally wonderful I had to come on and tell everyone. Himself is wondering how I can outdo tonight's dinner tomorrow. I'm not sure either!

Whoever posted, thank you, it's fabulous!

okay, so here's the Scotch eggs I did for our crabbing tomorrow.

The egg in the middle is an EE - the Scotch eggs are ducks eggs wrapped with ground, seasoned chicken thighs. We had one for a starter before dinner tonight, cut up and dipped in mustard. It was fabulous.

Scotch eggs are really good picnic food - if anyone wants to know how, just let me know. Kids love them as much as adult do.

I don't want to know how to make them.
I just want to know if you will adopt me?!?!

Noon? Or one since my grandson wouldnt go to bed last night..lol.

I was sitting outside this morning and the girls were out of their yard, not far- but out nonetheless..I got up to refill my coffee and when I came back out, my girls are gone.
Back into their yard, under the lilac bush. Very odd.

Sat there for a minute and a big hawk swooped down two houses down and grabbed a bird. I never saw it or heard it.
Good chickens.

do you have a rooster? mine puts out a growl and they all freeze or hide,so cool to watch

The side effects on that med were kind of scary but you wouldn't be getting enough in an egg I'M sure, to be a problem. Side effects of all med.s scare me,,,, Some times the cure is worse the the illness

Cocci is very confusing to me 1/2 of the poo checks I have done showed cocci, and vet said to treat, never have I seen blood in their poo,
idunno.gif
coarid can be used for cocci and there is no egg toss with that either.......I would suspect internal injury also, and antibiotic may help He doesnt lay eggs so no withdraw
I've been through the cocci in the past and this is what I learned. Cocci is a oocyst, think tiny parasite that can live in the soil and earthworms. When you feed medicated feed it damages the oocyst so the chickens can become immune without getting sick. If they get sick they need a larger dose of the same meds until they become immune. So it can be present in their systems and they can be immune and not sick. They usually get sick if introduced to a new strain or as chicks going from inside to the outside without medicated feed. Did I help any or make it worse?
Snowflake, a few days ago you asked to see a photo of my d'uccle roo, so here is Roobity-doo
He makes me miss my little guy. The hawk nabbed him last month.
It seems like there's been a lot of animal loss here in the last month. I'm new to the game. Is this rate of loss kind of constant, or is it unusual? I'm sorry for those who unexpectedly have illness or attack in their flock.
For us losing chickens has been none, none and then wham a bunch at once. No idea why but our biggest losses has also been predator and dog related.

Good chickens.
Having witness a hawk attack on my flock it was amazing to watch. I have great respect for the hawks and love them other places, just not here! I was so proud of how the roosters reacted and took off to try and help. I love my roosters!

Beautiful Day!! Hopefully it stays nice, we are having a bunch of people over tonight for gourmet smores. The yard work is done and house cleaned .... except my stink quail cages. I had just cardboard pull out trays in the bottom and my son was being helpful watering them. Just say I have really stinky trays that have to be replaced.

I put the birds away last night having never heard a crow from Mr. F all day. This morning when he did not come out again, I was worried. I looked in he was not there, I looked under, and there he was, standing up! Sweet. I went to get some feed for the tinies and ERRRR-RRRR-RRRRRARRRRRR! Loud and clear. It is pretty messed up when a crow can nearly bring you to tears.

You have quail ??? Do they eat anything special ? I am getting some Snowflake Bob Whites next weekend and was wondering what they eat. I planned on giving them game bird feed. Is there anything else they need ?
