i just put pallets in the hoop house, my meaties looked like deranged mud creatures.
found the guinea pigs in their tractor on TOP of their houses looking like they were going to buy a boat and make for the mother land.

i've gone through 3 pair of pants today and 2 coats. don't even ask about the wet undies.

but...i'm still glad i got my new fence up...that hubby of mine is awesome...working in the flood waters and kicking out the fence!

My hubby was a real trooper today too, he helped me get my muddies, I mean meaties, up on a dry board and get them warm with the heat lamp. He will be glad he did when we are eating all that good meat!

I just got in from bedding everyone down for the night. I had to push my chicken tractor with my BR's into an enclosed shed. My entire backyard is flooded...deep in some spots. But now they're nice and dry. My dog is practically having to swim in his fenced in yard. He does have part of our garage to get in out of the rain, but half of that's flooded. And my poor horses! I had to go out and lock them up in the barn tonight. Everything is flooded. But I could tell the horses were happy to get in the barn out of the cold and wet. They're bedded down with fresh straw, grain to eat, and lots of hay. The only animals "ignorant" to the flooding are my bantam cochin and silkie chicks in my garage brooders. I guess it's true...ignorance is bliss!

it's only gonna taste that much better! they are kind of funny, the meaties, not the husbands:lol:, because i put the pallets in and they were all like, "duh, what are those for? we'll just sit in these puddles, thank you!"

We had to move some chickens as they were being drowned out. Then the water kept rising and the poor donkeys were standing in knee deep water in their barn, all except one small corner was underwater.

So we decided to move them to the front pasture and let them share the barn with the goats. However, one of the donkeys, Levi, who was in that small dry corner, refused to come out, refused to walk through water. It was quite hilarious to watch my daughter and husband try to pull him out and then when he realized he couldn't win, he took a flying leap and ran out of the barn to higher ground. Nearly knocking over my 17 year old daughter who would NOT have been pleased to fall in that cold, manure filled water!!

Praying for that rain to stop asap, before our sump pump burns up!!

I sure am glad that it quit raining. I didn't want to change my name from Opa to Noah. Just think how bad this would have been if all that moisture had been snow.

[/img] As cool as it feels this morning I'm reminded that winter is not far off. Read one posting "Silence of the Crows. Pretty funny, but it reminded me that I am going to have to get busy and start silencing some of my own. Tororider: the plug is cheaper and looks better at americanlivestock.com

Finally the rain has stopped! I am so glad were in Michigan and not Texas, so are my chickens! I seen some blue skys a coming and when the sun finally peaked out I had to go outside and enjoy it for just the short few minutes it was here! I'm also very glad it was rain and not snow. Although my hubby would have been happy as heck if it had been snow! He's already running around making noise's like his snowmobile! Yuck!!

I'm glad that miss_jayne got her birthday wishes. I know I enjoyed reading all of the humorous tips she received on how to insure her wishes. This certainly is a great site. Lots of interesting people and lots of help. Tororider was kind enough to call me about some blue andalusian eggs for sale. I might have missed them had he not called. Now hopefully, I can put my broody BLRW to work. Wow, it's past my bedtime. I can out to my office a little after nine to check on the eggs for sale, got hooked reading posts and now it's after 11.

I've been on the sidelines watching since April. I guess its time to say "Hello."

I'm in Fenton and this insanity started after my 8yr old son had a terrible bout with cancer. He's in remission now, and I decided I wanted a little control over the food we ate.

I picked up 7 Buff Orpingtons thinking I might lose one or two to predators free ranging. Buying 7 seemed like a good way to keep 5

Twelve weeks later I had to have more. I picked up 3 Black Australorp pullets and a roo of the same breed. The nice hatchery sent me 2 instead and a third of a different breed

Now its been 22 weeks and I am starting to get excited. Its a little bit like waiting for Santa. Looking for that first egg. Also planning on which birds I can add next year
