Micro Farm Coop Worklog [UPDATE: SHINGLES ON - PAGE 27]

Weeeeeeeeellllllllllllllllllllllllllll...... Yeah... They may.. But I won't be letting them out often to run the yard and when I do it will be in limited numbers.

Else they'll have full run of the.. well.. Chicken run.. Once I get that built..

your little 4 legged helper. thats a cutie pie.
LOL...

what do you think of running the Vinyl
floor up the walls about 8 -12 inches.
with no tacking down, for pulling it out for easier cleaning?

LOL Sissy.. Helper is not happy with me.. I shaved her down yesterday for summer. She retaliated by getting into the creak and now she stinks... So.. Bath time..

As far as running vinyl up the wall, that's a fine idea, though I don't think it would be best to make it removable.

One thought on it... If you do so, it would be best to put in blocking into the 2x4 stud walls so that it blocks off the lower section where the vinyl will cover. That way it will not fill with chips and bird poo.

You'd have to have some kind of method of keeping it in place. I'd seen someone has a tarp which they just put screws into the wall and then "hung" it against the wall, keeping it in place. But that is a tarp and not vinyl.

To keep it removable, you'd almost have to screw it into place with a screw and large size washer. Much like is done on hardware cloth to hold it in place.

Question comes to mind though, why would you have to remove vinyl at all for cleaning?

Well I can already see what kind of day its gonna be. When I saw that you had a new post under this thread I noticed that it said [UPDATE: SORT OF - PG13] My brain computed that as "rated" PG-13 and couldn't figure out why you would consider a post about shaving your dog and her rolling in the creek PG-13...duh

*click* (went the light bulb) OOOoooooo, PAGE 13! My bad!! Maybe I won't work on the coop today, it might be dangerous for me to be handleing power tools!

LOL... Space limit, so I had to abbreviate it.. Though I guess it COULD be rated PG13.. I saved her dignity and didn't shave too much off..

Darkwolf, you are correct why remove the
vinyl for cleaning, the shavings iIuse would be cleaned and refreshed. thanks for turning the light switch on in my head..LoL

Sticky tiles stink! Our house came with these tiles and they came up almost right away. I would only suggest using them someplace you want a temp fix of the floor.

If it makes you feel better, our sticky tiles are POO but they were free, so I just stapled them down as soon as I put them in... since I did it before they peeled up, they didn't peel up! LOL

Your coop is looking great...much better than my invisible one!

I'm definitely confused on something, though, and I'm trying to figure it out. (nothing new about the confused part for me!

This goes back to the very beginning and the deck blocks/piers that you used. It looks like you used four of the blocks and maybe a couple of other supports of some kind in the middle of the sides. Supporting the building this way appears to rely on two joists end-nailed and maybe two other supports to basically hold the entire building up. What am I missing here?

Here is a shot of a deck being built using pier blocks:
