Hi, all, I'm a long time member but usually lurk and couldn't figure out my user name/password. I guess I didn't put what I usually have... so this is my new logon.

This is a really weird question...
I have 12 laying hens, approx 14 months old. (Over a year) They have not gone into moult yet, but do lay full sized eggs. I also have 35 6 week old chicks, recently put into the chicken house with them.

Today, we found in the nesting box a single egg, exactly 1 1/4 inches - I mean, really teeny tiny.

Who could have laid it? Thoughts in the house have ranged from a wild bird came in and laid, which is unlikely, since the front door of the coop was closed and I doubt that they would have gone in the side chicken door, which is very small and at the bottom of the coop. Then my DH thought the chicks could have laid it, but they are only 6 weeks old, hatched on 5/18. Could it be that the adult birds are ready to moult and are laying small eggs? There was only one. It's really, really strange.

it is called a fart egg and they usually don't have yolks and that is why they are so small

here. This is the 2nd time I've told someone about these, and I've never even had one!

Thanks, everyone! That is so cute. I'm excited it's nothing to worry about.
