Mid January Hatch thread....

I set 9 eggs 12-19. 10 eggs on 12-21, 18 eggs on 12-24, 30 eggs on 12-29, and in still setting more every few days! All of these are RSL and My goal is to get about 50-60 hens out of 120 eggs for Layers! I hatched 2 females out of the 4 eggs I did a test hatch on a few weeks ago!

I've got 24 that I set on 12/25, so we're looking at 1/15 for the "due" date. Nice lot of mixes - my roos are an EE and a BO, and the hens are EE's, BO's, GLW's, SLW's and Dark Brahma. I sooo want to see an EE/Brahma cross - beard and feathered feet?? Cool!

I just candled again last night, and i know for sure I have a couple that are quitters... are your eggs clear?

We had a whirlwind weekend... ordered white leghorn eggs that arrived Thursday, unfortunately almost half were smashed and the postman handed over an obviously dripping box.

We can only hope the remaining 4 didn't get slammed around too much.

We then had to pick up the remaining eggs from a local breeder on Saturday (6 Ameraucanas, 5 Marans and 5 Light Brahmas). We added in one egg from our Marans hen at the last moment (we'll see if it is fertilized) and all eggs (21 total) were put in the incubator Saturday afternoon.

So far our Brinsea seems to be holding the temp & humidity perfectly. I am adding water as needed. I found an EASY way to add water without having to shift eggs around is by using a big 60cc syringe (no needle) and squirting in through the tray into the wells below. I can easily get it between the eggs without bothering them, and then replace the lid quickly before too much heat/humidity escapes.

18 more days to go!

We plan to candle for the first time on day 7-8.

Hello Everyone!

I am so excited to join you! I am currently in my very first hatch, testing out my Christmas Gift Incubator! Day 21 is January 16th. So I will be candeling here today or tomorrow, which should be interesting since most of the eggs are cuckoo marans. Look forward to having others to share with, since my family is quite sure I am eggsane!
