Old Granny, my retired ISA brown who has never gone broody in her life, has decided to sit with Buffy. Buffy is sitting on 4 duck eggs. Granny has been sitting with her since early this morning.
Edit: Forgot to mention that the eggs are due to hatch any day now.

Granny must have known something was up. A duckling hatched this afternoon!
Buffy was definitely not interested and pushed it away so it's all by itself in a brooder now.

Another baby this morning, she kept it under her so I moved her with 2 eggs and 1 baby to a more suitable location i.e. the brooder cage. It took her 5 minutes, if that, to figure out her new nest,
Fingers crossed about yesterday's little one who is now there as well.

Photos to follow, I promise.

Very cute!! I have a marans hen that is broody. There is another hen that isn't broody but will hop up and set on her eggs so she can get off again in the late afternoon and get drinks and eat. The broody does get off every morning to do that but then the non broody hen will get up there in the afternoon and sit so she gets another break. Its kinda cool.
