I have those feeders that are the jar that screw on the base with the holes for my chicks. How would I refill them before they are empty without dumping the remaining feed in the base? I tried filling the jar, putting my hand over the opening, and then flipping over. I only lost a little feed when I moved my hand. Is there another trick or something. Thanks

I just always scattered the leftover feed in the brooder before refilling it. It gave the chicks something to do since they had to scratch and look for food rather than just go to the feeder. I always had a heckuva time getting all the nooks and crannies cleaned and dried in the feeder.

I just dumped it out on a few sheets of newspaper, pick out the bedding and other undesirables. Then dumped it back in the jar using the paper as a funnel, topped it off and srewed it back on. Don't know if it is the proper/best way, but that's how I did it.
