I might be taking these two girls on soon. The red one's about 5 years old, and the black/white one is 2-3 years old and is described as getting broody often.

Anything I should take into consideration? Can you help me figure out the breed? This is the only picture I got.

Didn’t you just build a tiny coop? How many does it hold ?

Also a 5 year old hen? Is it healthy? Are they wormed? What do they eat ?

Looks like a production red and a cochin.

If the cochin is broody, do you want her to hatch eggs or break her broodiness?
If you want to break her you need an elevated wire cage with a wire bottom. No nesting box, just a perch with food and water. Keep her in there for a few days.

They are older(won't be productive), your coop isn't near big enough(integration takes extra space), they could bring pests and disease,
I recommend not taking these birds.
You've got chicken fever.... take a step, several steps, back.

You need to take into consideration sickness they could bring to your flock. If you do end up taking these pretty girls, quarantine for no less than 2 weeks.

Thanks for the warnings on the age. I've been reading up on age related issues, the worry of the resources a non-producing hen would take up and what she's offer to the flock's happiness (or lack of) or worms. Hmm.

I just expanded it with a 2x2 nesting box but yeah, it's only 3x3 on the inside and I have two small hens right now. I'm not sure their exact breeds either tbh. I picked them up off craigslist a few weeks ago and the said they were between 6-8 months. Their wings were cut back really far. I feel like further than would be necessary.

Are broody hens like that long term? I'm still learning of course. Skimmed a few articles on it. Does seem like it might not be worth the effort. Thanks for helping me identify them.

Thank you for the frank advice, I appreciate it and am leaning towards not taking them now after more thought.

Wings are trimmed severely, looks like secondaries are cut as well as primary's.
Does that barred bird always have a huge crop bulge?
