Might be getting ducks tomorrow...

So...I might be getting three 4 week old cayuga ducks tomorrow. Our chicks just moved out of the brooder into the coop a few weeks ago, so they'll be able to go in there till they're ready to be moved outside.

School me! There are so many different recommendations out there...what's the best way to handle the mess in the brooder? How long do they need to be inside (night time lows are in the 40s currently, 65ish during the day)?

And if you were building a duck house for a small flock of ducks what would be your MUST HAVES? (I would never anticipate having more than 5 ducks)

When will you know for sure that you are getting ducks? If I were you, I would get a book on raising ducks. I got Storey's guide to ducks.

As far as housing, they just need a shelter - pretty basic - Something to keep them safe at night.

Soooo we got the ducks haha. They played in the tub for a bit now they're in the brooder set up like I saw on a "Homesteady" YouTube video.

Now we just have to plan our duck house and build it, lol

Yes their down is not near as black as their adult feathers. I love cayugas. All of mine are very personable and relaxed.

Just the lighting. They're all black, but in order to see the details in their faces the picture has to be brightened and that mixed with the filter is making them look less black.

I use these types of water containers. Less spillage..they need to dunk heads to keep nares and eyes clean..
