Might be jumping the gun a little...

Welcome to Backyard Chickens - I almost wrote "backyard turtles." Years ago I found a small turtle in my backyard - far from any water source.

I walked it over to a pond near another street and set it down. It scooted itself to the water and hope it was okay.
Swampfox440 and your post reminds me of the time I was driving to work and found a snapping turtle in the middle of an intersection. I stopped to pick it up and move it to the retention pond in the direction the turtle was heading. I picked it up and turnEd around to see a fire department vehicle behind me. The fireman gets out, sees me with the turtle, and asked me what I was doing. I tell him I’m removing the turtle from the road. He went back to his vehicle, flipped the lights on, and directed traffic while I carried the snapping turtle to the pond and then returned to my car. Luckily it wasn’t a busy intersection. Another day in Naperville, I guess, with the fire department escorting their nesting turtles.

We adopted our turtle from a family that had her for 15 years, and we have had her for another eight now. My wife loves turtles but we didn’t want to get a young one since so many are currently in captivity. Red eared sliders are now naturalized all over the world because people get them when they are small, and then forget they can live up to fifty years in captivity, so we wanted to give a turtle a chance to live out its golden years in an environment it’s used to. So now Rosie hangs out in her 120 gallon tank with some feeder fish eating pellets, worms and dried anchovies.
tMikey lives in a 200 gallon former salt water tank. Frankly being a wildlife rehabilitator I'd just turn him back loose in our stock pond.
Welcome to BYC ! I like turtles also ! :wee Unless they are snapping turtles .
I love snapping turtles, they are almost as good as gator fried. Sorry I'm actually a certified fire fighter. Welcome to the south where we eat anything and don't bloody knock it till you try it.
