Might get a duo of peahens, and got questions, please ~

Pen size is debatable. At a minimum, I would keep it 12'x8'x8'. Don't think you would need to worry about the noise issue with the peahens. They might honk here and there if they see a hawk or if they are trying to locate a male, but their noise will be minimal. Hurry up and build that pen and show us pictures

I think they might still lay eggs even without a male...? So you could also have some eggs to eat.

Well they mainly just need a high roost, some water, maybe a dish for food, and a covered area with maybe the roost under the covered area so they can get out of the rain or escape the heat. The covered area could just be a tarp over the top of the pen. When you get them you can put a chair in there and sit with them and try and get them to take bread, lettuce, peanuts, etc from your hand.

And thanks for the thread Kedreeva, it helped me a lot regarding what I should include in the "pen" or not.
Although for sure our pen will not be so fancy, because we are just keeping them for a limited amount of time before they find a new home, but I want them to feel at least comfortable.

The "roof" of the pen I'm thinking will not be higher than 6ft unfortunately, but I will be there to keep them company everyday.
My mom said yes, so we are definetely getting some !
And of course we'll give them perches, and feeders, waterers aaaand toys and maybe try safe plants

Yes!!!! Sweet! Haha I remembered when getting peafowl was resting in just a simple yes or no from my dad. My mom was already for it and so were the neighbors and so I was so happy when my dad agreed. Good luck! Is the zoo going to make you catch them yourself?

It was stressful, I really really wanted mom to agree !
And all she basically wants is for me to clean my room more often.

And yes, I'll have to catch those two girls myself. I have no idea how though.

If you have to catch them yourself, you will need someone to help you. As soon as you grab the first one (if you do manage) the other one will take off. How about you ask the zoo if they have some sort of pen you can walk them in to by throwing treats to the pen.

Well, if we DO get peahens (cuz my dad seems to be changing his mind which saddens me, as it's my birthday soon...), there will in fact be people to help us, I'd be catching one with my sis or mom, while my dad and an other guy would catch an other one. We have plenty of time ahead if we actually get them, but the zoo isn't really going to help I'm afraid. It's all us on our own.

The next best thing to a pen is tall grass/field grass if that's around. The one time I had to catch someone outside of a pen, we got him against a fence line in some really tall grass- I missed on my first lunge, but the grass was so tall and thick that he couldn't open his wings to fly!

Oh yes that would be nice ! Well, hopefully everyone agrees, including the neighbors, considering their house aren't so far from ours.

Though one thing bothers me, is that I heard people say they used to have peahens waking them up at 4 in the morning honking for males ?
So would a peahen call for a male even if there is absolutely none around ? And would they start honking if they hear the chickens of my neighbor ?
