Mild or Severe Prolapse? *Graphic Images*

Just to let anybody who might be interested know the outcome of this little drama. Rita laid an egg again yesterday (the prolapse didn't seem to effect that at all). This morning we tried again to push in the prolapse but it would just fall out instantly. We didn't want her to suffer so we had to end her short life, she was only 22 weeks old. Very sad day, we cut her head off but might look into different options if we have a next time, it was pretty traumatic (probably more so for us). I had read posts where people had cut off the prolapse, held it in with bandages or waited 2 weeks to see if there was any improvement. We didn't see any point in prolonging her suffering

We will have a beer for her tonight, RIP little Rita x

Sorry for your loss of Rita, from what I've read you did the right thing. I am sure the culling was traumatic, I am still not sure how I am going to handle that when the time comes...

Jayne,

Sick chicken is still about the same...I've had her on an antibiotic for a week now. Still eating/drinking, I have her separate from the other girls so I can monitor her. Laid another yellow "glob" this am. Not sure what to do with her! I am going to keep her on the antibiotic for another week. I just took out some lettuce, ends from a tomato and a couple of pieces of canteloupe rind, her appetite is NOT effected at ALL!
