Don’t be sorry – I came late to the game also. On top of it all……..well I cheated and purchased eggs from Lynne. (did not even try to start from scratch

MsBear, in her BYC page has a MF Cochin progress page. It shows a few of the BYC member who are breeding and how they started.

Here's
a link to the first thread... lots of info.

Tiki, partridge can be used with mottled. I think the best way to look at mille fleur is like you would look at a soup recipe. There is even a great genetics book out there that explains all mixing of colors this way.

The soup base can either be partridge, wheaten or duckwing. The background color (main ingredient) is buff. Mottling is used for the white tips (a little spice)

Many of us began w/ buff columbian as it combines the buff and wheaten into 1 step

The U.S. distributor of vanDort's book "Genetics of Chicken Colours" is Jerry S. (the Serama breeder - can't remember how to spell his last name). There is a link on the website that will direct you to his email address.

You might also try contacting the co-author, David Hancox, who is a BYC member (blackdotte)!!!

The last time I contacted him, he did have some stock - same price as if you get it from Jerry. (But he said he could autograph it!)

I got mine from David (Blackdotte). He even autographed it for me.

It really is a great book. Explains the genetics of color in a way anyone can understand.
