Of the few I've been able to hatch, they're about 5 weeks now, one has an all-white chest. The rest of him (yes, pretty sure on that) is gorgeous, but that all white chest......
Here are the four MF I hatched out. (Lynne's eggs). The partridgey hen in foreground is a year old, others are about 6 months. The pullet has just started laying. I bred the hen to a white, then a buff, got some columbians and part/columbians in both. Eager to see what the pullet throws. There are 3 babies in the brooder from the hen in this pen, all are fairly dark but showing bright red on their chest and white is coming in.
OK........some help and advice please. I am a newbie to this project.
Here is my 4 month old pair of MF. I purchased the eggs on this list and hatched them out.
They are just now beginning to mate. I hope to eventually hatch out a few of her eggs to see what comes of it.
In the meantime should I sit tight.... or .....get another MF hen or 2 for him to mix things up a bit?? Or keep it simple for now and just hatch my own from this pair.
I am limited for space so am trying to do it right the first time around. Thanks for any/all advice. I see some people aren't terribly far from me so maybe we can swap birds now and then?
Just don't know exactly how to get started and want to do it right.
TIA
Sorry the pics aren't better but they just won't stay put.
Presenting Napolean & Josephine.
When tiny:The color changes really amaze me.
And different stages of coloring as they are morphing into adults.
Mrschickendad, you could expect something like this from crossing that hen with those red boys. My hen looked identical to yours (also from Lynne's birds) and my boy looked extremely similar to yours
I'm a newbie too. I don't know if they are right, but I think your 2 are just beautiful! I think Nancy (Bluffcountryshepardess) would love them too. We both lean towards the "Calico Cochins"
