Mille Cochin Info

what do you all think about this young pullet? She is standing weird and was freaking out cause I took her away from the boys.

Chickenlady just pmed me and said that the mystery boy is from my eggs. I had mfc's with a mottledxmfc roo and was getting some wild stuff but, never anything like that. How different! Is that pullet from the same clutch?

I was so dissapointed from that crossing that I bailed on it. ..very depressing after aquiring the mottled for that sole purpose then battling fertility to obtain 1 chick which turned out to be a roo, waiting for him to mature, fight fertility again.. finally trimmed the HECK out of those guys... only to wind up with every color under the moon EXCEPT buff with black and white. I see you got the only pullet I would've been happy with

Isn't that how it goes. ... I now have 3 different roos and about 20 girls. And, Im going to hatch every egg I get for 3 months.

eta: Im sure your better typed one is the darker one (that's how it goes) but, your best luck for MF looks to be the other roo. Personally, I would breed to both and see what you get.

MsBear, so sorry to hear of your bad outcome with the mottled crossses. Beginner's luck I guess, but all my mottled crosses produce either mottleds, mottleds with gold leakage on the roosters, or mille fleur pattern of some sort. And ain't THAT the TRUTH when you get a well marked bird, it has a pointy tail, but your mottleds come out with better cushions, or the opposite of whatever you hope will happen!

Here is a 3 mth old roo I am going to keep. He needs black added (why is it always black I need in my birds?) but I have a lot of MF/Mottled girls so he will cross with them. As long as his type holds up he can stay. If he falls apart I place them either in a home or the freezer. Most of my MF extra roos have been leaving with happy owners lately. Especially anything with a lot of white.

Here is a 7 wk old that is showing more black. I have crossed my beautiful Xavier with MF/Mottled hens to get this. The above roo is also out of Xavier but with my light patterned MF hens. I just hope this kid keeps enough black and will show some better type.

I have some great kids growing up out of Danny's stock, too. I have 2 typy roos from him that I am crossing with some of my ladies and am trying different crosses to see what I can get. As my birds get better I keep breeding to those boys and get wonderful type. I will keep working on pattern but type comes first in my breeding pens.
