Kelly, that roo is just gorgeous. I have one almost identical to him from wwmicasa1. I don't think he's "too dark" I think too dark is when they have too much black. I cannot get enough of that deep, dark red. Compare him to mille fleur d'uccle and you won't see much difference in color. I can't tell from your pic but mine has this great lighter buff mottling on the chest... just love him.

I hatched out a few more the other day and want to post some updated shots of some of the juvies... hubby got my camera working again so I'll head out sometime soon.

BuckCreek ~ Your hen is stunning! What a beauty. How many MFC project birds (not counting these new little treasures!) do you have? I would love to see a photo of the rooster that sired these chicks. It would be interesting for us to see how the offspring of your two develop...

Do you know of any upcoming chicken shows in WI.?

I'm wondering about that "Golden Neck" title for our "Candy Corn" colored mfc project hens. They DO have black ~ just not a lot. And don't really have a golden neck ~ rather a spattering of gold/butterscotch spangles with a few blacks thrown in, on a white body. Really, very much like candy corn!

;-)

I should try to find some pictures of "Golden Necks" to see what they look like.

I did notice, in many of the photos that have shown sections of various flocks, there are frequently these little beauties, so it must be a pretty common marking for mfc project birds. Anybody have a cockeral/rooster with the Candy Corn colors???

Hobby names are already confusing. It would be inaccurate & confusing to use "Golden Neck" as they are something else.
Golden Necks are tidy mille fleur with the addition of either, heterozygous dominant white or homozygous blue thus the bird has no black.
