Hey Mike, I thought you outcrossed with partridge Im a bit confused. Are these boys out of partridge birds?

Anyway, they're type is definitely improved and I can very clearly see the wheaten signs; no black on the hackles and saddle, but plenty of action going on on the breast. I bet in a couple generations, you could really clear that up... I also notice how dark dark red these boys are. Apparently, wheaten is condusive to the mahogany gene which gives RIR roos their color. It's a red "enhancer" and, I think, it is evident in these boys.

You can see this d'uccle from Scotland is similar in appearance http://poultrykeeper.com/belgian/the-belgian-bantam/barbu-d-uccle-photos.html

The
one thing that concerns me though in that mille fleur is described by the APA as being "orange vermillion" and not "mahongany". Im wondering if it makes a difference or if, their will be so many different lines of MFC displaying so many different genes that it will be a problem crossing lines. OR, if mille fleur d-uccle breeders deal with this now.

Here's a thread here on BYC which shows the kind of mille d'uccles we have.. they are orange vermillion but, you can see they all have different degrees of black and white and dilute https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=417438 https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=417438

Hey Erin

All these boys are an F2 The boy in the first pic is a cross from the F1 partridge x MFC His grandparents were the F1's He is the result of those breeding The last ones are F2's from a MFC rooster and a hen from the same F1 bunch So they are all second generation They do have that darker mahogany color Which I like But it could cause a problem with the ABA standard for the lighter breast and not so dark back but that might be able to be worked out and maybe keeping the type in

I have them all in with some hens that have more of the millie color and not all the white so maybe that will help some Will see later this year Nough of my babble right now Gotta run

sounds like you have a real plan. It's funny... after you've been working on this for a few years.. you longer than that, I believe.. and you start getting the hang of things... It REALLY is all about matchmaking. Lighter to darker, no black to excess black or just enough black, etc. It seems the more I learn, the more I realize I don't know but, no matter because it seems I've been doing things pretty much the right way anyway

I call it common sense mating
