Yup, 3 and 4 are boys. Sorry! I"m beginning to be able to tell by the color at that age as well. But my guys are usually pretty clear by 2 months. Unlike my silkies. Or Wyandottes. Or Polish. Or any other breed I have! LOL! (My orps are pretty easy to tell by 2 months as well......must be a straight comb thing!)

STOP Jinxing me. BAD PEOPLE BAD! LOL....I don't need another boy. OMG, what am I going to do with all these guys?? That will make 9 Mille BOYS. OMG... soon my whole flock will be of just Mille Roosters LOL.

GRRR Ok, I have five more babies that have just recently hatch. THERE BETTER BE FIVE GIRLS!!

Is there a way to tell what they are if they JUST hatched?? today will be there 1st DAY birthday hahahaha

He is pure pekin bantam they seem to look a little different than bantam cochins (I am in the UK) less leg. Plus he is bent over looking for corn. I am quite new to them (only second generation of millefleur). Please could you help educate me and tell me whats wrong with the comb? Are there too many points?

This is standard for males. Am I right in thinking as there is no specified number of points for the comb that it doesn't matter?

General characteristics:
Male:
Type: Body short and broad. Back short, increasing in breadth to the saddle, which should be very full, rising well from between the shoulders and furnished with long soft feathers. Breast deep and full. Wings short, tightly tucked up, the ends hidden by saddle hackle. Tail very short and full, soft and without hard quill feathers, with abundant converts almost hiding main tail feathers, the whole forming one unbroken duplex curve with back and saddle. General type: tail should be carried higher than the head – ‘tilt’.
Head: Skull small and fine. Beak rather short, stout, slightly curved. Eyes large and bright. Comb single, small, firm, perfectly straight and erect, well serrated, curved from front to back. Face smooth and fine, ear-lobes smooth and fine, preferably nearly as long as the wattles, which are long, ample, smooth and rounded.
Neck: Short, carried forward with abundant long hackle reaching well down the back.
Legs and feet: Legs short and well apart. Stout thighs hidden by plentiful fluff. Hocks completed covered with soft feathers curling round the joints (stiff feathers forming ‘vulture hocks’ are objectionable but not disqualification). Shanks short and thick, abundantly covered with soft outstanding feathers. Toes, four, strong and straight, the middle and outer toes plentifully covered with soft feathers to their tips.
Plumage: Very abundant, long and wide, quite soft with very full fluff

So here are those long overdue pictures I promised. Sorry they are like 2 months late. I got mostly my 3 cockerels and a couple frizzles as well as this one Columbianish patterned pullet I kept.

He is the columbianish pullet. She has faint black coming through on her hackles and smudges of it down her back into the cushion. She is rather small but I figured she could be worth hanging onto for one reason or another.


Now, he is my frizzle rooster. He is my last chick from Peppermint and has her markings except he is this red color rather than the vary light buff of Peppermint. Really need a name for this guy. Any suggestions would be great.








Here are my 2 frizzle pullets. I'm liking them both a lot. Really excited to hatch from them this spring.






And here is my best looking boy as of now. This is Feather, not the greatest pattern but better than his father. He has good wings, yet his cushion I can't really tell as I have a feather puller and most feathers in his cushion are broken off. He is pretty wide though and I'm hoping to get some decent chicks from him once my girls begin to lay. But even though he is farther off than many of the roosters I've used in this project, I'm hoping he can help a little bit better just because of the different birds I have into his bloodlines.
















And then there is my boy called Smores. He isn't what I hoped but Im not about to lose all hope on him yet. I really like his dark pattern as all my girls are extremely light with little or no pattern whatsoever. Fingers are crossed he fills out nicely but he reminds me a lot of my Rem from a few years back. Overall decent conformation, but not rally to wide and has a tight cushion. But this guy is around 4 months so I'll give him a while longer to try and impress me in ways besides color. I don't have anything growing out to replace him so it's not like I need his space.







Let me know what you all think. These definitely aren't my best and I probably could have made better choices as of what roosters to keep this year, these even could be a step backwards but I'm hoping they will pay off for me in some way.

And Nosipho, I absolutely and so jealous over those boys you have there. They are definitely something I could use here. Maybe I'll be lucky next spring and get a boy like them. Absolutely stunning!
