Mille Cochin Info

I have absolutely fallen in love! I have read through this entire thread and I am just fascinated with these beautiful birds! Could someone please point me in the right direction on getting started myself? I have seen some hatching eggs for sale on various sites but, I would like to buy from someone associated with BYC. I am not sure if you all use the same user names at any of the other sites as you use here.

I do have the time and space to put into these beautiful birds and any help you could give would be greatly appreciated.

I, personally, got my start from Lynne (wwmicasa1) and I know she has started birds available. Mille fleur is currently a project so, with hatching eggs, you will get a lot of culls. I would suggest buying the birds and having them shipped if you really want nice ones. I currently have eggs in the bator from Josh (joshsbantams) Both have really nice stuff. Good Luck!

Erin,

I'm so pleased that you are happy with your new trio.

The photo shoot in the grass is awesome. I know these three think they have gone to heaven as they had "never" seen grass.

This years crop of babies has shown dramatic improvement.

The girls are displaying nice cushions & the boys have developed the lovely chevrons on their breasts, not just mottling, as in last year. I have hatched about 20 chicks from Bridget using 3 different roos. I have my fingers crossed that this last hatch, using my red cochin roo, will be the best. The 6 chicks from this mating are the closest to the MF D'Uccle coloration as I have ever had. Time will tell....I'm just impatient ~!

Paula & Rosemary...thanks so much for the vote of confidence. As you know, this is a labor of love

I am just tickled that so many new people are coming on board! I am finding this to be such fun with all the interesting chicks I hatch. To watch them grow and change has been wonderful and I am glad others will get to share in this adventure as well.
And as many of us have wondered, once we perfect it what we we work on next? Fortunately, most of us got on board with just a lot of project birds and we aren't turning out those gorgeous MFC yet as some of the breeders are doing. But oh, the fun of getting there and achieving nice MF by your own choices in the breeding program. That will make me so happy.

Welcome! I first saw these birds on the breed chart here on BYC. My boyfriend had already told me so much about his partridge cochins he had as a kid that I knew that I'd love the breed's personality. He also had millefleur d'uccles and I love them too, they're pretty little things. So imagine when I stumbled upon those little banty millefleur cochins! I just about died! I still didn't know at the time that I'd be able to find a breeder, like I said, I had never seen them before. Later on, this thread popped up and I found Lynne. She lives so close to me compared to most breeders that I was able to get some eggs without all that shipping nonsense! I'm so excited! There's such a wonderful assortment of colors that came out of those eggs! As of this past Easter weekend, I have 3 light yellow, 7 medium darkness skunk striped, 1 dark gray skunk striped and 1 light caramel skunk striped SPUNKY little cochin! I should take more pictures of them, I've just been so hypnotized by their cuteness! I can't wait to see what they will all grow up to look like.

Again, WELCOME! The more the merrier!

WOW, Lolita! looks like you had a great hatch! Those black mottled looking ones are all split for mille fleur. Put them back to MF for some nice tooshed MFC's A couple others look to be split but are showing silver. You could cull them or put them to gold and cull silver offspring.

Whats up with that frizzle looking guy

I don't have any.. maybe just some crazy feather growth

Camelot, nice boys. It's so hard to tell at this age but I think I like the middle one best

Lolita, here's a pic of my mottled/mille cross. Your birds will have better type than him because this guys daddy wasn't as nice as the roo I was using most recently. This one also does not have the lovely rusty streaks like Patty's crosses do which Im suspecting will give better color in the milles. Im hoping to get a nicer roo out of my Spring hatch to swap him out with.

Here's his daddy... still pretty nice.
