Mille Cochin Info

I am with you on that!
They change almost daily but never fast enough for me to do something with them! LOL

I try hard not to look at them too much when they are young. Probably not so good for me but I have other projects to focus on, too so let mine mature some. There are always those that keep drawing your eye though.

Since I'm not interested in showing, Karl's sisters look lovely to me! The colors the Mille breeders are disappointed in are the ones I seem to like the best. The best Milles are too wild for me! I just like the caramel and white .......

Mjgigax-- love your project!!! Beautiful birds indeed. I'm new to chickens myself. I fell in love with chickens my last few years in the Army. My last duty station was Belgium where I saw my first Millie Fleur D'uccles. 2 short years later and I now have a small collection of chickens finally. Keep up the excellent work. Just two questions for you. Is the coloring sex linked? I'd love to get this color into a silkie.
Thanks for sharing!
Sincerely,
Eric

chrisf, I would definitely not use that chick in my mille program unless it was the only one you had available. That color can mess you up for generations. Some here will disagree.

Is this because of all the white?...or something else........and yes, it is for my longtail birds................................thanks...........................chrisf

some believe the partridgey feathers (smudgey barred look on the feathers) will inhibit proper MF coloring. And, that the smudginess will take years to breed out. I know breeders who have used partridge to improve golden laced and in two generations had absolutely gorgeous!! crisp, laced birds. And, have heard breeders say that they weren't happy with the partridge route so.. I guess it all depends on who you talk to and what other genes you are working with.

Good Luck in whatever you choose

What she said!!! You will get different results depending on whether your birds are eb, eWh, or a combination of the two. That's why you get so many differing answers - everyone's Mille Fleur flock has a different gene pool. So it actually does work for some, but not for others.

I'm not certain, but I don't think so. In my limited experience sex-linked birds are ovbious at hatch. If so then Milles are not because it can take me two months for some of my chicks to have comb differences that let me know!
