Mille Cochin Info

I have a roo that I just sold that looks so much like that! But he wasn't hatched chipmunk because I do not have that in the bloodlines. This boy hatched out looking black Mottled and matured up to this photo taken at 3 1/2 months old.

We get new breeders every year and lose a few breeders every year. I hope it balances out and we will have enough breeders to work at getting this variety recognized.

I would like to have a few that would be nice enough to enter in AOV at some local shows to build recognition but so far my best ones are ones I want to keep home and in breeding and not losing time prepping for a show. Maybe in another year or two I will have some extras I can put up in prep cages and take out of the breeding flocks.

There are breeders in the next county over from me, I couldn't get over how many MF Cochins were entered in their county fair. I took pics, have to find them and post them. The next county fair I went to, I met a guy who raises them not far from me. My point: they seem to be the up and coming breed around here.

Funky feathers: Thank you for the time progression on the chipmunk pattern. I'm amazed how far they swing from light to dark, to light...and then dark again. Very nice!

Country boy, LOVE Remington! He's got a nice wide chest.

Okay...Found em! These are NOT my birds, just pics of two that were at a county fair close to me, would still like to have opinions, so I can learn. Thanks!

Sorry the pictures aren't so good. My take on these is that the hen has good type but too much white. I think the cock's comb may be too large? and should he have Mahogany hackles?

She is built nicely but looks Calico, definitely not MF pattern. I really like her shape.
The roo needs more chevrons just like the pullet. Hard to see his type but he looks nice. You don't want him to be mahogany, he needs to be more vermillion to fit with a MF standard. His cushion looks like it needs to be fuller. And his comb is much too large, you are right.

Showing in fairs is good to get the word out about these beauties as so many more folks go to fairs usually than a APA or ABA show. I never go to fairs anymore. I can't stand the conditions or the smells.

I'm trying to round everyone up into their own pens (by variety) from the free ranging flock but will have pics posted once i get everyone together.

Maybe i'll even have eggs to hatch in another few weeks or a month? hope so, i'm tired of all the freeloaders. LOL

but i have to say i've been pleased with the chicks i've hatched out of the mille trio i started with. now here's hoping the 2nd generation will carry that along too.

Here are a few growing up. I took a lot of photos but only a few turned out well.

And here's one out of hens I kept from Mike's roo.

I need to start thinning some out and get everyone outside on the ground. they have been in the brooder room way too long. In two weeks I will be delivering a good many birds to the Chickenstock and then I will so much more room in grow out pens to throw out these kids.
