Here are three pics I took today. Some people have been wondering what they look like. They are marked the same as my mottled cochin chicks were at that age. They almost all have vulture hocks and mosts have profuse foot feathering. These birds are more friendly than my mottleds were. My mille roo has had a very friendly and docile disposition ever since he hatched and seems able to pass it on. Note the feet, they are well formed and very yellow!

Aaaahhhh!!! I love them. I don't know what you mean about vulture hocks. You said that about your roo and I think he looks all cochin to me. Is it the back of the knee...like they aren't thick enough there?

I can't wait to see more pics WHEN U KEEP IT UPDATED hint hint hint.

I wanted to tell you, I got a confirmation about a mottled trio from Jamie Matts in NY. EEEEE!!!!! Im so pumped. They'll be here at the end of the month. I was going to get a red hen to throw in the mix for my project

I'll keep ya posted

Also got a silver laced trio yesterday. They're still babies https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=99899 I think they're hatchery stock but they seem to be looking okay so far. I hope they get some more white.

Are you going to put any hens back to the mille? I think one or two more times, you ought to start getting some fine looking birds.

on the first chick, see that tuft of feathers below the wing and above the "boot" of his leg? that is a long row of feathers that runs down the drumstick part of his leg and when he grows up it will be much longer and curve around under the back of his fluffy butt part and be like a second row of hard feathers outlining his butt. It is a major fault and comes from the D'uccle background where the Mille Fleur color originated from (I am guessing) in this line. Lots of work to be done. For now, just trying to share info, trade eggs, make mille on healthy chicks.

Way to go on the acquisitions! Jamie Matts! nothing like starting at the top, eh? Your SL cochins will likely show more color with more moults. So many chickens, so little space! Sigh...

Yes, i will be saving all the pullets from this cross to take back to the father, and the best quality roo I can, to cross on those babies that come out of the first cross. Wish me luck!

Thanks, I see it. As they grow, they will blossom and may lose some of that. Or it'll just hide very well beneath a fluffy bottom:) Still very nice looking chicks. I'd be super happy with them.

Those are really cute chicks. Now, are they mille or mottled? The title says mille, but I don't think I've ever seen a mille feather in black like that. Is that common on cochins? I've never worked with cochins, but our mille pyncheons usually hatch a cream/tan color. Regardless, they're adorable.

Sorry, the title should read Mille Fleur Cochin project. not mille fleur. They will look like normal mottleds, black with some varying amount of white tipped feathers. How much mottling should be how much mille they would show if they were red/buff colored.

Oh, I see...thanks so much for clarifying that for me. Great job and what a wonderful project. Good luck with your goals.

Looks like your project is well on its way Have been wanting to see pics of your chicks They look nice Feathering looks good and body looks good right now Have to wait and see on some of the other things But it is a step in the right direction What you are planning to do on your breedings is pretty much what I had planned also But I have an extra pair of mottleds and an extra millie hen that is going into this same project Now I am on pins and needles waiting for some eggs
