Mille Fleur Cochin project, F1 update pix

What are you idjits doing up at this time of night??

I have thought about trimming or plucking.....I should probably get busy and do it!

Also....last night I candled yet another batch of araucana eggs (10) and cochin eggs (6) on their way into the hatcher. Yet again, ALL the cochin eggs were clear. This time I did at least get 2 araucana eggs developing -- which is better than I've been doing! I'm hoping the oncoming spring will make a difference, cause I REALLY don't want to switch roos or pluck all those fluffy little bottoms!

I havent heard that word for a lot of years Takes me back a looooooooooong time This idjit got off work at 3:30 AM and getting ready for bed But anyway Sorry about your eggs being clear As I said before I think they are seasonal Mine picked up last year when the weather warmed up And then you couldnt stop the roo with a brick wall Good luck this Spring

I thought it might be a seasonal thing but the sets in December and the first part of January I was still getting about 85% Fertile and my Silkies haven’t had a problem. I went ahead and trimmed and plucked their bums bare. My Roo had a ton of new fluff back there so that’s more than likely what there problem was. I don’t know we’ll see a week if the last bunch are fertile it might have just been a fluke or something. Also I wonder if the eggs might have gotten too cold while I was storing them.

My wife thinks it odd that I get up several times a night to check my email and stuff so I’m just as crazy as you all.

i was up because the baby was giving me heartburn from hades!!!plus i'm just a byc freak...... doc if you come home with more birds i'll take some araucanas from ya so you will have room for the newbies......

She started laying pullet eggs evry 3-4 days so I decided it was time for the roo So my plan is in motion If this one dont work I have 2 other roos that would love the chance to be with a hen other than another roo

Will keep all of everybody up on what happens maybe even if there are some fertile eggs And Lynnes eggs are doing just great They are supposed to hatch next week Till later

Mike,

I am so pleased that the eggs are coming along. Can't wait to hear about the hatch.

Here are some pics of Nov 08 hatch in the grow-out pen. They are F2's which are the same as the eggs you have in the bator.
