These guys easily fly up and over my head. The daddy will regularly pace back and forth on the barn roof, crowing. They are really sweet, too. Not like a BO that likes to cuddle.. but respectful.

I love my D'uccles! They are so sweet and will cuddle when I hold them.
Mine fly too when startled outside. All of my chickens fly, actually.
I think that they are so beautiful when they do it.

I never dreamed that I would be so mesmerized by chickens.
But I am. every day they do something amazing!

oops..sorry..I thought I was posting about the sumatras. My d'uccles barely walk around the coop, much less fly. When I bought them (early summer) they were young and their wings were clipped. Perhaps they don't know that flying is an option.??

Again..sorry..I've never been good at this computer stuff.

It's funny.... she is a bit awkward walking... not as much now that she's been outside and many of her foot feathers have busted off at the ends..... but she's my only tree chicken, much to my dismay. Luckily no one else has much interest in flying 20 ft into the trees when I let them out. She's getting better about coming down now when you call her. My DH claims that he called her one day and she flew right to his arm like a hawk...

I think he just exaggerates to make me jealous!
