I have 3 minis. This is Sydney, all dressed up for a Christmas parade:
I have known Syd since she was just a few days old. She is very headstrong and bratty; her nickname is "Syd the Man-eating Mini." She is very much the boss mare type, is flighty and frequently needs to be reminded that she's a horse, and people always outrank her (I think we have finally broken her of attacking children in the pasture). Both of Syd's parents were registered miniature horses, but Syd overgrew, and at about 40" tall can't be registered. When she was about 2 years old, her owner decided to sell her. Both of my children were afraid of her, so she was the last thing I needed, but as I said, I have known this gal since she was a tiny baby, and I couldn't bear the thought of somebody tossing her out in a pasture with some stud to risk her life producing pretty, but unregisterable (and therefore CHEAP), babies. So, Syd has been living with us for the last few years. She did a pony party for a group of 3- to 7-year-olds recently, and behaved beautifully (my daughter handles her very well now).
This is Betsy, my 34" mini mule:
Betsy was 9 years old when she was given to me. Her previous owner had been told that Betsy could be ridden or driven, but after owning her a week, I figured out that the person who said that was either speaking hypothetically, or was outright lying! Betsy knew nothing. I fear that because of her small size, previous owners didn't bother to try to teach her anything, they just wrestled her into whatever they wanted to do with her. I have owned her for about 6 years now, but she is still has a strong aversion to men she doesn't know and ducks away when you try to touch her ears. She is very much a character; like all mules, she is very smart!
Blondie:
Blondie's sire was a show horse that actually did very well at the local level. Her mother had some very good bloodlines, so there was every reason to think that they would make a good cross. But Blondie is very cow hocked and slightly roach backed, and has no business in a show ring. She shouldn't ever be bred, but she is every bit as sweet as she looks. She loves attention any way she can get it! We are in the process of teaching her some tricks; she nods her head "yes" and shakes her head "no." Sometimes she tries to do both at the same time, and looks like a goofy bobble-head!
aww thanks for the stories so sweet ..I love the minis just need someone to drive train him kasper is of age now..thanks for sharing and good luck to all..very nice pics love it..
