Mini Australian Shepherds?! New photo 8/13 (last page)

MomtoSyd&Emma :

I cant wait to see him in adulthood! Puppies are cute and all, but I am one of those weird people that prefers adult dogs, and cats lol

He really is a pretty calm pup, I am surprised by this.

He knows, sit, shake, and I am working on down with him. And so far so good on recall!

I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to get back into obediance work with him, as I did that with our Dalmatian/Bluetick cross and loved it!

Agreed for older dogs

I've tried puppies... give me a senior dog over a pup any day. I prefer the middle ground... but yea X3

Sure there are mini aussies, I have seen several, cute little things!! I looked into getting one a few years ago but couldn't find a local breeder at the time. How about Rocket? As in Rockets Red Glare? or bottle rocket? Roman? Roman Candles? Patriot? Indy for Independence Day? Justice?

Well there's no breed standard for mini or toy that I've seen, so I'm thinking it's just something else someone has bred (not this particular puppy) to make money.

How about General or Colonel?

Well if your looking for a name, I have an Austrolorp hen and I named her Sydney because Austrolorp reminds me of Australia and hence Sydney, Australia.

I absolutely love the name Rocket. I thought about Skipper or Capt. But the family said no to those too lol

I obviously love the name Sydney as that is my oldest daughters name lol lol

I guess what I should have said is they're not an AKC breed standard, those are just clubs that have only been around for less than 20 years. I have nothing against the dogs no matter what size.

But think of it like this... the Aussie and many other breeds of dog were bred for a particular job and needed a particular size (usually) to do that job. People end up with runts in some litters of dogs, breed them and get smaller dogs and now we have a 'mini' which is (sometimes) no long suited to do what it was bred to do. It's also not up to breed standard, and well, we can't have that! so we have to make a club to make sure everyone knows what we have! and make a NEW standard for... well, runts. Which BTW are sometimes the best dogs from a litter.

I'm very glad I'm happy with my mutts

Yep, you are right, these were bred down from the smallest to the smallest and bred to be more companion than a working dog. I hear the still excel at obedience and agility but I am sure they are a bit small for actual herding all day type stuff. Cute little guys though.

They are cute. But I wonder, why are we never happy with what we already have? I see soooooooo many breeds being (I can't use the word I want) messed up over time until they are really no longer what they are supposed to be??

More PATRIOTIC names.....
Flag
Soldier
Liberty
Marine

To me he is a dog lol All of our animals are "fixed" he will be neutered as soon as all his shots are done.

I laugh and tell people that everything here is "fixed" including DH & I lol lol

I love his personality, in all honesty, I have never liked Australian Shepherds too much, but he has me smitten with him!

I do believe his name will stay Sparky just because DH and the girls insist, BUT if it was up to me, he would be Wyatt (for Wyatt Earp) or Huck for Huckleberry
