Our Barred Rock went broody after getting 2 chicks (4 weeks old). Laid by the divider fence. She did that for over a week, stopped laying eggs, last week she laid every other day. Friday evening started seeing her feathers in the run. Saturday more feathers. Checked her for lice & mites, didn't see any. Checked vent for anything unusual, nothing there. Comb and legs look normal color. Even did the double sided tape in the coop, nothing but a spider on the tape. Feathers coming from back end. She was checked for worms 3 months ago, no worms. Could this be a Mini Molt brought on by the broodiness?
Pictures of the feathers I cleaned out of the run tonight.

We are going into molting season, so molt wouldn't be unusual at this time. Your hen is smart to get molt over with before cold weather comes. I have noticed more feathers lying around the run myself.

Thank You. Thinking about it, when they were free roaming (before we took them in) they nested under the trees by our motorhome (we live in it) and there were lots of feathers around this time. Hubby reminded me about that. Of course I noticed the feathers right away, I clean the run every evening and the coop gets cleaned in the mornings.
Have indoor birds but never chickens. Guess I'm being too much of a mother hen. LOL. Learning so much thanks to this group of wonderful people!
