MINI OREGON GEESE

What other symptoms are you seeing? Are they having trouble breathing, or have they been pecked or hurt by others? How old are they?. It would be good to also post on the duck forum under Forums and “other backyard poultry.”

Blood usually is evidence of being hurt, but if a respiratory infection is present, that can point to a disease called ILT or infective laryngotrachial tracheitis, a virus that is contagious and may cause gasping, “pump handle respirations,” and bloody mucus from the beak. The blood can be slung on coop walls and equipment. I would look for signs of a predator or something that could injure them.

we just got them from holddridge farm about a month ago. They are tentively not that old. They seem to be breathing ok, eating ok. We put them in with our call ducks after we got them, and was going to move in with the big geese. They don't look like they are picking their feathers, They have water and our water pan froze, we think that they may have tried to get water and the top was frozen and they may have pecked to get to the water. We checked today and it seems that the blood that was there yesterday isn't there, and is dried up. We are making sure that the pan isn't frozen and is ok for them. But if anyone has suggestions id sure appreciate them. We moved them into a separate pen so they ie have anything that they wont spread to the rest of the flock.

They are in an enclosed pen before but now they are in another enclosure that has no other birds near. I didn't see blood in the coop but will due further inspection to see if any signs of blood. is there anything a person can do If the birds show signs of respiratory infection is present, what can I do to treat this disease called ILT or infective laryngotrachial tracheitis. We live where there isn't many bird vets that I know of.
