We are new to chickens. W have 14 hens and I am very worried about the upcoming cold snap. We have 2 heat lamps in the coop..what else should we do? So far we get between 10-14 eggs a day and they all seem ok. Any suggestions? Thanks!

to BYC!

Unless it is going to drop a considerable temp from the normal over night temps they are used to, then you do not need to add any heat. If they have acclimated to your coldest temps already, they should be able to handle even colder temps. BUT....if the wind is going to be really ripping over night, you might want to shut off a couple of vents to slow the air movement down around the roost bar. Make sure there are no drafts close the birds, and if you really feel the need to add heat lamps, just use them only on the coldest of nights. Not as a regular routine.

Great to have you aboard and enjoy BYC!
