Hello everyone!! I have had the most boring week of my life!!

Nothing has happened this week at all!! Except that my muscovy hen flys to the back of the run every morning when the coop is opened and lands on a round bale and sits there most of her day. And both my turkeys are laying fertile eggs now. And a BA hen went broody and is really ticking me off. Other than this nothing else. Oh and my BBW started gobbling!! It is horrible compared to my toms gobble!!

Oh and I leave tomorrow to go to Goodridge deer hunting at mt great grandparents! Our whole family goes up there every year for hunting. Next time you see me it might be a picture of me with my monster buck. Lol it might be tiny.... Or a doe... Only time will tell!!

I'm kind of okay without the snow business for free ranging chickens but...I do like to cross country ski...and last year was a bust. Plus being a tourist area...snow brings in snowmobilers on the weekends and that is a shot in the arm for the winter economy.

Holm good luck deerhunting. Your turkeys and other fowl are gorgeous there. Pretty neat pen of birds. Do you rotate the fence a bit to give them more greens? Or is it buried fencing involved too?

Foxy I don't know what to make of your murdered grouse mystery other than to tell you to knock on some wood and be glad it wasnt one of your birdies. It looks like bird of prey owl or hawk or eagle. They may have dropped it or caught it there, plucked it a bit and then moved on with the goods. IDK.. I think there are a couple scenarios to be had there.

Birds are out loving the free ranging yet. Foggy here today although temps are still up.

Put some chicken poop around my apple trees this morning. See if we can't get those things a-growing good.

Kloppers sorry about the womanly hormone talk. LOL. Sometimes on this particular thread, I suppose you may have to put up with a little bit of that since there are half of us that are gals and the other half Tim the Tool man types. Ar-Ar Ar.

foxy, my theory about your grouse is that it was flying to escape an aerial predator and didn't make it. thinking hawk flew off with body? thank goodness the grouse was the one taken. Be xtra careful with your flock.

You can provide a hawk shelter by propping something up that they can get underneath...plywood? old topper? a determined hawk/owl will go under but sometimes its enough to discourage them. good luck!

BC we doubled the run in July and left the old posts in the middle so we could put the fencing back this spring so the grass can grow on the other side but the birds love the water hole on the pther side so much we might leave it.

There was a hawk sitting on the ice house in the back of the pick and all the birds ran under the pine trees in the run. Untrimmed pine trees with low branches make great cover!!

Got me thinking - I'm not clear with some of you whether you are male or female or undecided?
