Minnesota!

Thought I would share this view of Grand Marais... My husband restored an old wooden boat over the past few years and we finally got it out on the harbor this summer.

WOW!!! That wood hull is sooo nice. I have a 1963 wards rebel. Fiberglass hull. Nowhere as nice as yours. But I like it.
I call it the barbie boat.

that's awesome Blanch! Looks similar in size to ours, maybe a little shorter. What do you have for a motor on it? From what I can make out in the pic, looks like a beautiful vintage motor

Installed a red light in the coop today. It's as cold in there as outside...no drafts though. The poop on the poop boards was frozen solid this morning. I'm disappointed because it's insulated and 2 goats have a stall in there....it's big so the 11 chickens and 2 goats share 9x11 feet of space. I hope the heat lamp helps.

Well, I am still not getting much for eggs. Nothing from my EEs. Since the run is fully enclosed now I don't shut the coop door so when the light comes on they go down there. I may have to install more lights.....

On another note.
On turkey day the wife decided that we would not go to her folks house because they weren't going to do anything traditional. Soooo, now everyone decided they are coming to my house so I have to cook for 14. The wife and I have been trying to figure everything out for plates, chairs, serving dishes, etc. Arrg. Never had 14 here before. Our table fits 10 max and the center island in the kitchen seats 4 max.... Our living room is very small. We have the original farm house in the Neighborhood. Built 1900. By the soldiers cemetery. doors everywhere and smaller rooms for easy heating.
love love old houses, you can tell alot about how people spent their time by how the house is laid out and what is there. lucky you!
I've got 17 people and two dogs coming for thanksgiving. My house is very small, but open floor plan. I can only get 6 at the table, the rest in the living room and at the counter. Sue and I do the turkey, stuffing, pumpkin pie, and everyone brings something. I think this is the 5th year in a row for hosting thanksgiving, eveyrone else lives in the cities and its a treat for them to come up here.

Yeah. But we enjoy it. Right? All the planning and the fun of the day. I am going to do the turkey on my grill so I can keep my oven open for other things like popovers and then I also have a commercial tabletop convection air that can roast like no other. It will be fun. But you have to complain a little. That is part of the fun too.

I cannot believe you are doing popovers! that is fabulous!
how common is sour crop? will we eventually have to deal with it? or does it depend on the chicken?

I've never had it in all these years....
When are these four free-loading pullets going to lay?!?! I feel I have been more than patient

They'll be 28 weeks on Thanksgiving.... maybe I'll invite them to dinner.... LOL kidding of course.... Everybody is actually free loading right now

I'm loving your greenhouse with all the windows, how smart to make it available to the chickens in the winter - a very fancy sunporch!

What kind of chickens do you have? You probalby don't need heat at all unless you have some kind of delicate breed. Most chickens do great with no heat whatsoever, as long as you can keep it to low humidity and lots of ventilation but not drafts on them. How long have you had goats?

Ok, got to go supervise roost time. here's hoping at least half of the new girls figure out how to go into the coop by themselves. THen, its time to roast the pumpkins for the pie.

Barred rock, ee, bovan, asian blue....my first winter with chickens. I've had goats for 4 months....they are exiled to the 3 sided porch during the day but go into half the coop at night. The chickens decided the stall wall was a great place to roost.
