If you want birds that are not picky, get ducks, they will drop an egg anywhere!

What a beautiful day this is starting out as! Sun is shining, birds are singing in the trees, roosters are crowing...
Now, we just need the nip to leave the air and grass to get growing faster.

I know it was official yesterday, but HAPPY SPRING!!!

My ducks must be special. They didnt start laying this spring till I put their nest box (its actually just a tire filled with straw) in the coop. That night I git two eggs and another one sometime during the day. But my ducks r spoiled brats!

Its really nice out! We have seen a 10-20 deer every night out on hayfields and pastures now inatead of in the cattle farmers feed bunks! Should see lots of fawns come middle of June! And about ¾ of the cows here r starting to fill up with milk. Should be a busy Easter week!

Minnie, you would be proud of the Cornish hens. After their stay at the love shack they seem to be much more brave. I saw several of them out free ranging with their flock much further from the coop than I have ever seen them go!

This particular hen, a Bresse, walked back and forth by three next boxes. Jumped in one, back out then decided on the window well.
We found a Maran in the garage ( note to self - keep garage door closed always!) nesting between two suitcases.

My hens love going in the garage and I'm not sure why. We always have to do a sweep before we close the door. We have locked a few in there over night on 2 occasions

@scandiafowl We have an old granary that we just kept a few things in and didn't do much with until the year I got chickens. I had a Minorca hen out here who started laying in a corner of that building and we didn't know it until she had laid 24 eggs!!! Then there was an Ameraucana hen who thought a hollow log was a good spot off about 100 yards from the poultry area with 7 when I discovered her sneaking off one day. That was when I knew I needed a fence. But then I have found them going broody in tall grass and sitting on over a dozen eggs, under burdock leaves, in the tall weeds along the fence where we have to spray or weed whack and don't get to often enough.
Because of our dogs, we have never had them come so far as the garage to lay though. Oh, but they do like going under the brooder house which is raised on pilings about 18" on one said and 12" on the other. They have always loved dust bathing under it, then laying their eggs in the holes they make. I have to use my poultry hook to get the eggs out or crawl under.
