Minnesota!

Ugh its still snowing!!! We have already gotten 8 inches with possible 10 more to go. Old man winter is making up for lost time I believe. How much has anyone else gotten?
at 9 1/2 here, still snowing like crazy.
Am on the third day of having to chase the chickens out of the coop.

Not looking forward to the subzero temps this weekend.

In the past I used to add a heat lamp when the coop got below zero. Am trying to talk myself out of it this year. Supposedly they will be fine at 30 below as long as they can get out of the wind and stay dry.

It's still snowing, but there's less than an inch on the ground here.

We have about 3 inches with a layer of ice underneath. The dogs and the flock don't seem to mind too much right now with the temp still at 29F.

We did however, just catch our black lab going into the coop to steal an egg... his tracks in the snow gave him away. We thought we had a chicken laying outside somewhere and the dogs were finding the eggs outside. Naughty dog!

It was chicken but deep yesterday morning and it has been snowing ever since. Greta one of the Barred Rocks snuck out yesterday and got quite a surprise when her but landed in snow. She let out a groan and came right back in where it was dry.

"Chicken but deep" I love it!

When my family from sunny California calls I'll have to describe it that way to them.

thats one good thing about snow, you get to see who has been where - critters of all sorts! I'm always happy when I can see no predators have been near the run. And it gives me a heads up if I see varmit tracks.

funny that your dog learned to go help himself to eggs! How will you solve that problem?

I'm surprised he can squeeze through the chicken/duck door, he's a pretty big lab. He absolutely hates to be scolded by Mama so now that I caught him and scolded him, I'm hoping he'll stay out of there. Only time will tell. I also told the kids we have to check for eggs more often so if he goes in there several times without finding anything maybe he'll give up. Hopefully.

I'm just inside South Dakota near Lake Benton, MN and the snow looks like it is finally stopping. We have about 6 inches on the ground. Hoping the wind stays down but I'm seeing movement in the trees. So I suspect wind will pick up. Quite fluffy snow so if it gets windy, visibility will go into the subbasement.

I didn't let my chickens out of their coop today because of the snow. I chose instead to install a net bag with piles of suet seed blocks in it, dangling from the roof beams to give them something to interact with & hopefully curb their boredom. If this is an example of what nature has in store for the rest of winter, the hens are definitely staying indoors for the rest of winter.

Not too much here in Burnsville. Looks like maybe 2 inches, but it's wet heavy stuff on top of slush so it's a mess. My chickens act like it's the second worst day of their lives though.

We have more than 2 feet here and it is still falling. Chicken doors were opened today, but not a one decided to brave the snow. They would have to tunnel!
