Minnesota!

Glad you made it back, Ralphie.
I know the feeling of returning to the carnage and messes that need to be cleaned up. I feel for you, big guy.

The biggest bug problem coming around is gnats. Last year I had several people call/text/email me that they lost birds from gnats getting so clustered on their faces that they suffocated, so good air movement having a place to get them away from those is good. I think I read that a well ventilated or coop with a fan is good for the birds to have if the gnats get started because they would rather stay out where it is a bit humid and not indoors.
I don't notice a problem with misquitos, but I don't live in a swampy area where they are abundant. I have never really heard any valid information about them spreading disease. ALWAYS DOUBLE CHECK ADVICE FOR YOUR BIRDS! Even from me!

Rhetts- you need one of MY Wellie roosters. I have not had a single one get nasty with me. I raise about 20-30 per year to early adulthood and they are always very calm. I will say, someone who got one from me last year did get a bad apple, but that is a first. I am sorry you have one who is too big for his britches. They are such lovely birds though.

I would love to say more, as I am not a woman of few words, but I have to load some birds heading to their new homes today and meet with the driver soon.
You all have a good, sunny (muggy) Minnesota day!

Good morning, everyone!

Wanted to share a photo of the coop. We put the fence up yesterday after the rain.
There are two apple trees and two red currant bushes in the fenced in area, plenty of shade and cover. We deliberately did not mow in the area, lots of bugs to be found!
What a happy bunch!

Yeah, everything went well in the coop last night! I let everyone out to free range and I haven't seen anyone pick on the littles at all so hopefully they are part of the flock now.

The birds are melting today. I think I will borrow the bucket idea :)

Glad it went well, It was major moving day here. In Addition to the Senior High Students that learned to free range today, (AND the roosters are accepting them and seem to be welcoming them in. (except for Ole who lives in a prison now and is waiting for a worker to slip him a hack saw)

We moved the middle schoolers to an outdoor brooder and tractor. These include Bert's babies, (toads). Look how huge they are compared to the other birds, all the birds are the same age, including the turkeys that the toads are WAY bigger than.

Also attending Middle school is this Creamette, It has the cutest little crest.

Wow, Bert makes big babies! Are you raising them as meat birds?

I was originally going to raise and eat Bert's toads. But a combination of Bert's foot injury and poor hatches has forced me to change plans. I am now raising Bert's toads to lay eggs I can hatch next year. I will call them 2nd generation toads.

I am impressed with Bert's babies considering the experts on here told me CX's were infertile and the babies would look nothing like a CX. They look pretty Cx ish to me.
