Minnesota!

Nice mix!  My Barred Rocks are getting close to laying and I have to say they are my favorite birds in my flock besides my one Gold Comet, Lucille.  They are friendly and have the best looks

I agree. My BR's really are my nicest looking birds and not just because if the coloring but overall development. My RIR look pretty good too. But my buff orps are for sure the friendliest of the bunch.

I'm starting to think about buff orps as well.

How will you handle interbreed flirting?
It's on my mind as I watch my teenagers mingle...

And some of you wonder why I am so anti-zoning!

You guys have zoning too? This one I have heard of. It is always that kind of poop that catches up with you.
Heres an outside view of my coop

Heres an inside view. I am not done with the inside yet. I plan on building a brooder/nursery box underneath the roosts for a broody hen to hatch her eggs in peace and privacy. The top of the box will also serve as a poop board.

Wow!! **** nice!! If I am ever in the area, I will bring the beer.

It's totally annoying to ask some one something in a store and get that kind of service. "Duhhhhh... I don't knowwwww..."

Ralphie and Minnie what's going on in here?!

Miss muffit wanted in the scratch can pretty bad I guess.

Roger, the Big Tootsie.

Everybody grazing in the freshly mowed John Deere lawn. All is right in my world.

Love seeing this puff ball off the nest and not in her broody state joining the fun with the rest of the flock.

GoFeedTheGirls I like what you're doing with that coop and I have serious coop envy all over again.

Have a great evening all!
Now that is a back yard. No need to go anywhere for entertainment. Very well done.

How did the Concert go scandiafowl? Got a few flasks in I hope.

Thanks Blanch Ranch.

It's actually the septic mound on the north side but when it's all mowed the birds like to chase moths up there and dragon flies. Plus being the north side it's a bit cooler on this side of the house which the birds really like.

Here's more of the backyard:

I like the barred ones too. I have 2 barred rocks and a couple of the toads turned out barred, someone explain that to me....

I would like to get some Dominiques, for no other reason than they are an old breed and barred.

Turken disappeared today, I am assuming she went broody. I have more broodies than I know what do to with now.

I have a broody question... I have another BA, I think the same one that has been broody 3-4 times this year. She appears to be molting also, is that possible? Should I break her broodiness or let her set while molting?

Once again, I have to tell you I have one of the worlds greatest roosters, Ed (the partridge Chanticler I paid an arm and a leg for, is so protective, I threw them some bread today during snack time, he picked up a slice, after making his "Look what I found " sounds, and dropped it at the feet of a hen that came over. He did not eat it, she did.

I moved all the CX's outside and added to their run today and he spent the better part of the day laying next to their run. I think he thinks they are his babies!
I;d have to double check, but I am pretty sure the Barred gene is part of the sex link group thingy. I bred a Barred hen to a White Silkie this year and all the Barred are cockerels and the pullets are black.

So, I took off at 11 today from work to run home and finish my block work for my expanded run. What a wonderful day! finally finished at 8:30 or so, I'm going to put drainage pipes down each side yet before I fill the rocks, dirt back in

One of the reason I do blocks for the run footings is we live on clay so we need something that will not move, I used paver base and paver sand under the blocks, I hope they don't move! our original coop has been good so far, but we only built it last year.

The new foot print will be 21x10.5 when it is done.

I would have like to expanded more back here, but we built it too close to these pine trees, so that is about all I could do.
Don't mind the sand bags, put them down last fall due to all the water, trying to keep it out of the run, and left them there as they are heavy!

I think i'm going to put landscape rocks around the whole thing as well to try and keep the mud in check.
Can't wait until it is done, now to buy the wood and other items! Didn't think I'd every get that block work done!
