Do they write their names in the snow?

Even I know it is better for the environment to use a tree, rock or what ever. Toilets are like the O2 masks in airplanes, they are there for emergency use only.

I have never heard it called a "farmer snort".  I just call it blowing my nose... And what can't you do this in public? it is just a natural bodily function.

Because once I rode my bike up behind someone they turned towards me and did the farmers snort.

You can't undo that in your brain.

I would love your Delaware rooster, but when I brought up the idea of him living here Ed had a fit. Ed has to approve all new roosters. I even mentioned had Bert not approved him he would not be here, but that made no diff to him.

I think I have a Delaware hen and the thought of baby Delawares is very appealing to me. However, I have not seen my Delaware in several days. I assume she went broody on a stolen nest. BUT she could be "taken" also.

Well, Ed seems like a real stickler, and my Delaware Minerva is more of a laid back kind of guy. He likes to feel accepted, so I can see how this wouldn't work out. I do see him searching for your Delly hen if you gave him the proper tools...mainly a flashlight and a bag of scratch, but alas....Ed said no, so that's the way it goes. I picked him up this morning, and if I didn't want to trade for a Delaware hen so bad, he does have mighty big drumsticks....I mean leg structure.

I have three of them, including the jerk.

And we are so happy about that. I slept in this morning without my alarm clock outside. My girls (pullets) appreciate not getting accosted this morning 100 times too.

I agree, your Del looks to be 100% cockerel. However that gray cross with the Legbar looks like to could be a pullet. Are you sure it is a male? Just because they are jerks doesn't always mean they're male, just most of the time. I have had some real poophead hens too.

Anyway, welcome to the thread!
I am surprised no one has come to get them. I have people who drive down from as far as the north suburbs to get roosters from me and I live 25-miles north of Rochester.
Good luck. I DEFINITELY don't need any more cockerels in the flock. I have two pens right now that I may post because they are ALL jerks.

Oh he is a jerk roo alright. No mistaking that. I'm happy he found a new home where he can force himself on someone else's chickens and then get squarely knocked down a few pegs. He was taking advantage of the small group of pocket chickens we have. Turd.

Where did he go?

I had a serial rapist for a rooster and I gave him away. He was a beautiful bird, he just spend all day sneaking around waiting to jump on an unsuspecting hen. Of course, I had to send one hen with him. We have an alter here to her for making the ultimate sacrifice for the good of the flock. As Spock says " the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the one".. or something like that.



Which reminds me... Mistah!!!!!! I need pictures of Ole and Lena... I still miss him he was such a character, but he just did not fit into my flock, the other roosters hated him.

Scandiafowl has him. She has lots of hens for him to bestow his rapey ways on. She is a saint for offering her girls up like that to him. He is good and practiced too. He's been forcing himself on all chickens we have since 12 weeks of age. He sure is going to be beautiful to look at though, but I can say that because I don't have a beak and feathers.

yeah, roosters are so problematic. Beautiful to look at, definitely eye candy. But....so much stress in the yard.

Best rooster I ever had was a little black silkie. Don't remember how I came to have him, he was gentle, sweet, and the only small chicken I had. He kept falling off the hens and I don't know if he was ever successful at doing the deed. I gave him away when I wanted to let the broodies hatch. Needed a non-feather footed rooster and I knew that little silkie wouldn't make it with a big boy around.

That was years ago, since then I generally don't have roosters. Sometimes, maybe, if I want fertile eggs. Otherwise, just too much commotion. I do miss the watchdog part though. I wonder if the fox would have been successful if there had been a rooster keeping watch.

ps: do we have membership badges? I think I need one for my truck.
