Minnesota!

BC Grats on the egg..

Pictures of the babies..

Sorry they are so poor, the hen was not real fond of me,,and I had Ed running interference between me and the hen... I cannot believe Ed is so protective of even a turkey hen!

And this was the interference Ed was running..

he actually stood between me and the hen and made weird noises even for Ed...

We had a national night out event so I cooked some pulled pork. Brought the fat out to the chickens and watched the game of keep away. Wasn't doling out the pork fast enough for a bit and almost lost my fingers. They loved that stuff.

Great pictures Ralphie. I thought the creamette would be a little more noodle like. ;-)

Which of these two options might be better if I keep 2 rainbow cox:

1) introduce 2 cox and 5 pullets to 6 hens and 11 pullets in one coop

2) introduce 1 cockerel and 5 pullets to 6 hens and 11 pullets and introduce 1 cockerel to big buck and his 32 hen/pullet menagerie and hope for little to no bloodshed since there are plenty of ladies to go around. Also the rainbows are not quite to sexual maturity yet. I've only heard 1 cockerel give a weak attempt at a crow

What a long day!
Ralphie congrats on your babies!! You are lucky to have such a good roo! I am still weeding through the bakers dozen I have looking for just one keeper! Already had one join us for supper! 2 are kicked out of coop and awaiting their supper invitations. Is a good rooster usually this hard to find?

Good roosters happen, Ed was purely a lucky find by me. EJB had him and threw him in on the deal when I got Ole. Ole was the one I really wanted, but Ed being a partridge chanticleer had potential. He was stand offish, ornery and just a loner, then all of a sudden he blossomed into a great rooster, that seems to like babysitting.

I owe EJB big time . I really owe him one for giving me Ed..........
