Minnesota!

Thanks for all the well wishes for the fair. I will pass it on to my kiddos. I won't be showing anything. No time for baking or taking flowers or anything like that, and there isn't any open class showing in the animal classes I would have anything for. I will just enjoy the stress of getting them back and forth for chores and on time of showing and being int the proper attire for it. Tomorrow building projects go in and get judge then Tuesday is animal entry day and poultry "judging". This year, of course, there are no fowl, just stuffed toys in the cages for them to use for showmanship.

Daughter is taking a project that will be judged at that time though, and showmanship IS optional.
So, I know I won't be able to catch up when I return, since you crazy butts don't have lives and post like a bazillion posts a day!

I hope you all fare well whilst I am off getting more gray hair! I will check in after it is over. IF I am still alive.

LOL ...yea i wasnt sure on the straw in the run either..never had a coop or chickens before...but they will be free ranging in the yard anyways and there is lots of dirt,,,hard to grow grass in all this sand...
and i sure would have like to watch you get the creamette off the roof i bet that was good chicken tv...LOL

Cool they get a yard to run in!

You're right it will not make a difference if they have the yard. You are doubly right about grass in this sand. I have the nicest mowed ragweed yard in the world! I put an addition on this old farm house a couple years ago and I cannot get grass to grow at all where I tore up the decades old grass (read weeds that passed for grass). However, I would rather have this sand than the heavy soil some have that harbors worms and leaves ruts when it rains.

Me throwing sticks would not have been good chicken TV. I used bad language so it would have been R rated at the best. I also threatened his life, let him know roosters were expendable.

You will most likely not see this, BUT have fun and enjoy the fair. They must have a beer garden somewhere there. BTW Are any of your kids old enough to drive???

So we got some big storms south MN. Everyone all right?
We hardly had any rain over the weekend in Lakeville. I was hoping all of the rain in SW Minnesota would get us but alas, nothing.

One of our 6 chicks that were hatched on March 23rd is laying. Woke up Sunday morning and went out to the coop to let the girls out and inside the nesting box was a very tiny brown egg. My wife was already gone (kids are in 4H and had to be at the fairgrounds early on Sunday) so I took a picture of it and sent it to her. For scale, I placed the tiny egg on a spoon and you can see the silver of the spoon all around the egg it's that tiny.

Congrats Scott on the mini egg.

Good luck to your kiddos Minnie at the fair. Enjoy as much as you can. I'm sure the fair is missing lots of character without our feathered friends strutting their stuff. I can't imagine.

Ralphie those creamettes like to not go in... With her road runner ways I'm sure my Fern got herself locked out when the in laws were watching them memorial weekend. Which ended in some disappearance and some demise. Mine were probably still taking beatings on the roost at the time. So I'd blame those old hens first.
But funny she was up there with the turkey.

I'm bummed. Last night one of our leghorns was MIA at nighttime lockdown. She is the one who likes to fly the coop to go visit buck. She didn't come back last night and no sign early this morning. Hopefully she found a safe roost somewhere and comes home today.

The creamette that went onto the roof is best friends with the turkey. I have lots of turkey chicken friends/gangs. I have a group of 6, 4 turkeys and 2 chickens that are together all day long, they refuse to separate. Where 1 goes they all go, they are so connected to each other you would think they are guineas.

I know chickens are not overly blessed with brain cells, but mine seem to know each other, and seem to always hang out with the same group or buddy.

Thanks, Bogtown! We'll spend most of our waking hours at the fair this week. Wife took the week off as she'll be the parent spending most of the time there and I'll show up after work. I will be there all day tomorrow as I took the day off. Two of my kids show rabbits (went to the state fair last year with purple ribbons!) and tomorrow is "rabbit day". I'll also be there Friday evening as well as that's the evening the rabbits are judged plus the 'obstacle course'. Because so many kids show rabbits, Friday evening gets to be very long. We're there for HOURS as the kids show their rabbits and run them through the various courses. Love my kids but by hour 3 I begin to get restless.

If anyone is at the Dakota County Fair tomorrow or Friday evening, be sure to say 'hi'!
