Minnesota!

Just got home from the field and I almost sprinted to the coop to see if the girls would let little red(new rooster) into their domain and sure enough he was nestled up in the roost with them and they dont seem to mind. Thank goodness. I will check early in the morning to make sure there isnt any squabbles when the sun comes up tho. But ultimately im pleased with how the introduction is coming along!

You will most likely not see this, BUT have fun and enjoy the fair. They must have a beer garden somewhere there. BTW Are any of your kids old enough to drive???
Well, sort of. The 17-year old is still a lunatic behind the wheel, so no license yet. And it is not that he is a speed demon, he is more like an old lady! Daughter is 13.

We got the building entries in. She got 2 blues for her potted flowers. Then she got 2 blues on her foods: gnocchi with marinara, and angel food cake with vanilla glaze. She rocked!!! The judge for food was really impressed with the gnocchi, and so was I. I had other things to do, so it was pretty much all on her own this year.

Thanks, Bogtown! We'll spend most of our waking hours at the fair this week. Wife took the week off as she'll be the parent spending most of the time there and I'll show up after work. I will be there all day tomorrow as I took the day off. Two of my kids show rabbits (went to the state fair last year with purple ribbons!) and tomorrow is "rabbit day". I'll also be there Friday evening as well as that's the evening the rabbits are judged plus the 'obstacle course'. Because so many kids show rabbits, Friday evening gets to be very long. We're there for HOURS as the kids show their rabbits and run them through the various courses. Love my kids but by hour 3 I begin to get restless.

If anyone is at the Dakota County Fair tomorrow or Friday evening, be sure to say 'hi'!
Good luck!!! Our rabbit show is Friday. I hope your kids do well. Hopefully they aren't all blowing their coats out. We have a doe who is look like she went through a wind tunnel. Our show is in the morning, thank goodness. The poultry show is normally Tuesday night starting at 4:30. It has been known to go to 1:00am before. Crazy, I tell you!

Let us all know how it goes!

A few photos of Grumpy Girl. She is still not the most pleasant female to be around but has lots of personal space to be grumpy in.

Anyone think she might be a rooster?

I had to change my comment because on closer examination, the feathers in the tail and on the back do look like pullet feathers. How old is this elusive creature? It also has girly legs (very small shank size) So, perhaps a pullet getting ready to crank out some protein bombs?

Has anyone here given their birds copper sulfate solutions for crop or parasite issues?
Copper sulfate is something used for things like thrush or other fungal problems. To keep the gut/crop in balance, use REAL Apple Cider Vinegar with mother. Parasite, you can try all those things like DE or pumpkin seeds and so forth, but they will not cure an infestation, just help to prevent. To cure, you need actual deworming meds.

Read in the Sunday paper that more cities are considering allowing chickens.

But to make you pay an annual fee? Wrong!
What is the justification?
Zumbrota just passed the new ordinance for TEN hens!! I couldn't believe that many, but whatever. Luckily, they are not charging a fee. I am sure the fee covers time for inspections, which $50 seems excessive to me for them to come out for 5 minutes.

Was she doing the walk of shame?
I would sure like to try it. Where did you see that? What type of beer was it? I like stuff labeled like that.
Stone brewery puts out a beer that is call Arrogant *******. Then on the back of the label it goes on and on about how you aren't good enough for this beer and you might as well put it it down. Very funny.
HA HA!! It Won't let you say Bast-rd?? LOL!!! Over the top. To a point of very funny.

We actually have an Arrogant Bas**** beer glass my husband brought home from somewhere that was having a promo!

Uffda, all those rules just for what? Its so stupid these days that almost anything you do now requires a permit. Then you need inspections done. Then you need to go through ten thousand hoops just to get anything accomplished let alone have some chickens in your OWN yard.

He/she is an ee/ccl mix and born on 19 April. So almost four months old.

We need a betting pool! Does it crow or lay eggs?

Spent quite a while looking at deworming meds at Tractor Supply.

What to buy?
