I've had decent luck with shipped hatching eggs. The average has been about a 50% hatch. At home with my own eggs I get 98%. If you decide on black or lavender orpingtons I will have some eggs and chicks in the spring. I will also have lemon blue project bantam cochins. I usually have a few extra pullets by mid-summer too if you wanted to avoid dealing with roosters.

I believe, if you message them, it will show up in the top right hand corner. If they notice it, they can message you back. Seems a lot like instant messaging just without the pop up window of the message.

How far are you from New Richmond? I have some friends that live there. (I do want lav orps., and like my bantam cochins.)

We are all good here. Hubby offered to snowblow a path for me to the chicken coop. (He complains about me and my chickens, but is supportive anyway. lol )

I am glad the snow is here! I know we will be glad to see the end of it in a couple months, but this is a lovely snow!

I plan to go out and bank snow around the bottom of the coop for a bit of extra insulation. Do you think that is a good idea?

My Hubby's the same way.

I always bank the coop with snow. I think it helps alot and haven't seen any reason not to.

I think banking the snow is a great idea. I might have to try that with our 90 year old coop that is up on railroad ties. The floor is always so cold, but lots of insulation in the walls and ceiling (courtesy of the red squirrels). I'm happy about getting snow also since it helps keep the ground from freezing too deep during winter. The snow probably isn't so good for ice making on the lakes however.

Hello! I am so glad I found this thread! I have Icelandic chickens (love them). However, I have a list of chickens I would love to try.....(so addicting)

We only got about 6 inches of snow from that last storm, but my uncle in Isanti got something like 14"!
