Minnesota!

I can't wait for spring

The sad part is it's going to get colder before it really warms up.

Happy New Year!

HAPPY NEW YEAR MN Peeps, I used to live in Stacy, I moved to MT in 02,and just like to pop in here just to see how MN is doing. Did the chicken swap at Houles feed in Forest Lake have a good turnout last year? and is there another planned for this year, I'd really like to come back about that time and see what might be available for started pullets.
I hear that parts of MN got hit with some heavy snow, hope everyone made it through that OK.

Addicted to my chickens near leech lake checking in on this thread. 18 below this am. Uninsulated coop temp @ roost level... 3 degrees. Thought we did pretty good with that. Those kind of nights still scare me tho!

Heidi: for my waterer I built the cookie tin with lamp bulb contraption for around $7. I tried the heated dog bowl but it was too messy with dust pine shavings and poo and I go out to the coop about 3-4 times a day. I have the tin up on a good sized piece of cement I found at a landfill for safety. On real cold mornings there can be skin of ice yet with a 40 watt bulb but it works pretty well.

Exactly my sentiments! Hoping that we don't get too many of the bitter cold nights/days before the warmer stuff comes. I figured I have plenty of time to plan for this years garden and chicken pens, along with what chickens I would really like to concentrate on.

Happy New Years!

Finally getting snow!!! after 2 and a half days of rain. I guess the annual "January thaw" is over for this year, but we are that much closer to spring!!! The coop is insulated here and has been like the tropics!!!!!!

We got a dusting of snow, but have large frozen lakes in our lawn and field from some of our snow melting and the rain. Guess we can ice skate now!
