Minnesota!

Maybe I'll gain a dislike for them as a chicken owner, but ermines have always been to darn cute to for me to get mad at. My dad loves them because the eat all the rabbits and chipmunks that mess with his garden. Amazing little predators.

The way they find poultry is often because they start out after the rodents that are attracted to the poultry feed. They follow mouse paths and tracks that lead them right to the coops.

Got my first birds thursday (thanks minniechickmama!) heres a few snaps. My 7 layers are mixed in with 10 cochins for another mn member who's picking them up this weekend. The 2 blond headed buckeyes and the small black spotted chick between them in the 1st pic (i think EE, minniechickmama, feel free to correct me) are my favorites thus far.

Thanks again for picking them up for me too. I can't wait to see them tommarrow!!! My brooder is up and running just in time for them.

Man I would so take Boaz if I didn't have 2 roos already. He's gorgeous and a love no doubt. Anybody wanting a nice roo would find a deal there. Anybody else had a weasel or ermine visit their coop and run? I've got this cute guy visiting. Looks like he eats mice which is a nice deal but not sure I'm so keen about him drinking blood out of my birds' necks or wings. Egads. He's about 4-5 inches long body and 1-2 inch tail. Cute as a button...but so needs to go bye bye. need to build yet another coop related contraption: "Weasel Box" We're at the State Boys Basketball tournaments now and wouldn't you know right before we left yesterday I seen him peeking out from his den. My son got the .22 and fired a round down the hole at him...but doubtful we got anything. Crap crap crap. My mom is chook sitting, bless her, but wish I was back North staking out this guy.
Now, that is adorable! I have funny story about those. I was driving down the road one day and one crossed the road. I had never seen one before. I went home and told my husband I had discovered a new animal (only half joking, it was a possibility). He laughed so hard when I said that and said it was a weasle in his winter colors.

I am glad you are liking them, Phil. I think you are going to be hard pressed to give up the extras! Maybe your friend will let you come visit them ;)

Heidi, You are going to love those Cochins! Big old fluffballs they are and such sweet personalities.

Thanks SO much, Phil for helping us ladies out. It was great meeting you!

Well, it was a new to you animal, right? They are so cute, it is just unbelievable how vicious they can be.

Bogtown Chick, did you actually take that picture you posted? I would have to hang that on my wall. It is a really good picture. FYI: If anyone is looking for lavender orps I should have some chicks to sell for the next couple of weeks. I have a few due to hatch today.
