Minnesota!

I have done lots of research including going through a huge list of diseases that turkeys can get.

I knew about the risk of blackhead before I even brought her home, but I have neighbors with turkeys and chicken living together just fine so I don't think that blackhead is a problem in our area.

I have read a lot about chickens spreading diseases to turkeys, but I haven't found anything about turkey's spreading disease to chickens. For now, I don't want any other turkeys. Just her. Hopefully everything will be ok.

I am sure you won't have a lot of problems. I too know people who keep them together with no issues. I had no problems when I started with them until I brought some half grown turkeys to my place THEN I had problems.

I know some turkeys can become big pets. In fact, I had a lovely tom out here two years ago that it was very difficult sending him to be processed because he would follow me all over the place and strut constantly to get my attention. He was just beautiful.

In Minnesota, because it is the leading turkey producer in the country, the State is very sensitive to issues with turkeys and poultry in general that can have an effect on the turkey industry. When I went to my testing class they seemed to make it sound like is the worst thing to ever do to keep turkeys and other poultry together.

Like I said, it is nice that you brought her home and that you are showing her a good life. She looks happy already.

Ugh!!! My calls disappeared on me. They either flew away or something got them last night. I let everyone stay out late do to the warmth. They are the only thing gone. I am so mad at myself for doing it too :('''!

Hey!
Just so everyone knows, the Floodwood Feed Mill will have a chicken swap at 8am on saturday the 4th of May. They have my favorite feeds and they sell 50lb bags at great prices. I bought scratch for $10. (they also have a bunch of "brown egg layer" chicks for sale. Really nice people!

I lost one of my Icelandic babies :(
I tried but she just wasn't growing, poor little thing. Prettiest one of the bunch as well.

I'll have to check out their feed when I'm going through there someday. Both Mahtowa (TJs) and Widdes Feed in Esko have a chicken swap on Saturday, May 4th, also. Hope its nice out for all of them! Were you at the Carlton swap this past weekend? The weather was so beautiful for it this year.
